Dear Roo,
Before Christmas your best friend told you about how poorly her Grandad was and like the good friend you are, you listened to her and gave her a big hug.
Earlier this week he became much more poorly and I told you how he had been moved onto my hospital ward. You asked whether the nurses were looking after him and if his family were OK. You kindly gave me a hug and said thank you, as you knew that the ladies with which I work with would look after him well.
Yesterday I came home from work, sat you down and explained that your best friend’s Grandad had died and that the sky would have an extra star in the sky. you immediately asked to call your best friend to see how she was. I explained that we couldn’t call her right now as she was with her family, however I had seen her Mummy and Daddy at work and gave them bug hugs from us all.
A friend in need is a friend indeed
Sitting you down to explain that when you return to school next week that your best friend might need an extra hug or two and someone to hold her hand when she is feeling down.
You looked at me with tears streaming down your face and said ‘don’t worry Mummy, I’ll be there for her because she is my very best friend‘.
I looked at you bursting with pride that you have found a friend who you love so much and want to help and protect her from the world. You are an amazing young girl.
Love you Mummy xox
