Earlier this week whilst I was visiting some of the other bloggers who had linked up to the Living Arrows linky I came across a sentence that stopped me in my tracks…
You only get 18 summers with your children
This was over on Mascara & Mud and I’ll be honest I haven’t been able to get it out of my head ever since.
Over the years since Roo was born and then Tigger coming along I have to admit to have been worried about summer from a childcare perspective rather than a what fun shall we have today. The last few years I have started to change my way of thinking and realise that whilst summer childcare is a bit of a nightmare when you are trying to juggle work and a small support network. However last year and this year (touch wood) we have managed to work it so that with each of the summer holiday weeks the children are with either myself or Mr Boo, with two weeks being spent at Granny’s house.
I hate the time away from them whilst they are at my Mam’s house however as they only get to see her once or twice a year it is lovely for them to get that quality time with her. I can remember my summer holidays being spent with my Granny and Grandad with great fondness so I hope that they will remember the fun they have with Granny rather than feeling we banished them to Granny’s as we had to work.
This year we have managed to work it so that Mr Boo and I are both off the week after they come back from Granny’s house so we are planning lots of days out and fun activities (let’s hope the British weather plays ball).
Despite our plans for the summer I keep coming back to the sobering fact that I’m only likely to get 18 summers with my children which doesn’t seem like much at all. So this summer I’m going to try to make it a good one. The summer that they remember as the one before Piglet arrived.
