If I asked you to think back to your childhood and tell me where your mum kept the laundry and cleaning products. I can almost guarantee the answer is under the kitchen sink. It is in that cupboard that she would keep all the washing powder, the bleach, the disinfectant etc. Alongside a host of dusters, cloths and black sacks.
As an 80s child, I grew up with my mum being exactly like this. Although being a cleaner, we often had various cleaning products dotted around the home. Including the buffer cleaning pads hanging to dry on the bath taps after she had soaked and scrubbed them ready for the following day.
When staying at my Granny’s house, she took things a step further by having a pail of water and bleach under the kitchen sink. In which you had to place your underwear and socks in each night. Looking back I’m not quite sure why this was necessary, the socks I can understand to a point as she lived in the countryside and we would often come home muddy (I blame my Grandad for the walk he would take us on). Not 100% about the underwear though??

Now that I am the parent, I look back in horror at the thought that I had ready access to all these products. Not even so much as a safety catch on the door to help prevent me from getting my hands on washing powder, bleach, polish etc.
Thankfully parenting as moved on somewhat and we are now more aware of the dangers of having access to these products can have on children. Cupboard locks have been introduced, which is a great step, until your clever toddler works out how to open them. The best assurance against access to washing and cleaning products is to keep them in a cupboard up high, out of reach of little hands.

Remember that when you take these out of the cupboard to use, that you ‘click close‘ the lid as soon as you have taken your required PODS out to place in the washing machine before loading with your washing.
