It’s been a while since I documented the things that we have been watching, be it as a family or individually. TV, movies and streaming services are part and parcel of our lives. They are not for every family, but for us it is a great way to enjoy both active and passive time.
With April being our first full month in lockdown we have been enjoying more family film nights together. As well as me and What The Dad Said relaxing on an evening and binge-watching series. I won’t share everything that we’ve been watching, but let me share with you the highlights from what we’ve been watching in April.
Netflix
Tiger King
After seeing many, many posts and comments about the Tiger King series on Netflix we gave into peer pressure to see what all the fuss was about. If I’m honest I’m not quite sure what to say about this documentary series. So many questions, OMG and WTF moments throughout the episodes. It’s certainly a very different life to one that I even thought was possible.

Housewife 49
Having started to document our life in lockdown I had a sudden desire to rewatch Housewife 49. Starring the late Victoria Wood as Nella Last a housewife from Barrow. Encouraged to write wartime diaries for the MASS Observation Project by her youngest son. Suffering with her nerves, Nella is somewhat downtrodden and lacks confidence in most aspects of her life. Wishing to help the war effort she joins the WVS and is soon doing her bit on the home front for the soldiers.
Bringing Up Bates
One of my guilty pleasures is US reality shows, namely those that are centred around large families or polygamy. I’ve watched the Bates family for years, from the times they would pop up on the Duggars shows. They’ve had their own show Bringing Up Bates on UPtv for a few years. We always get them later over here in the UK via Amazon Prime Video. I’ve been catching up with series 8 – which feels like it was so long ago compared to things happening on their social media updates.
Family Film Nights
2012
Having enjoyed a run of comedies on family film nights we’ve opted for some films a little more serious and thought-provoking. 2012 follows a solar flare heating up the earth’s core. the only way to survive is to be aboard one of nine arks that have been built. Such as these types of films, things don’t quite go to plan.
Day After Tomorrow
A modern-day twist on Groundhog Day starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. The Day After Tomorrow follows the world as it is being invaded by mimics and a worldwide recruiting campaign has taken place to get the soldiers needed to fight them off. However, Major Cage is not a soldier, he is a PR whizz who suddenly finds himself suited and booted for battle. A chance kill of a prime mimic had left him with the ability to reset the day over and over again.
