When I think back to the first time I met Mr. Boo I cringe. Our first encounter should have been so different. It should have been at a birthday party for his best friends (the twins), which my best friend had been invited to. Asking me to join her at the party, I would have been introduced to the man I would go on to marry and have three children with. Instead, I opted to go out on town with my Prince’s Trust buddies.
Having missed that opportunity to meet him, it was fortunate that he became part of my wider friendship circle, as my best friend started dating one of the twins. With our first greeting being on April Fools day of all days. I regrettably had been out with my Prince’s Trust buddies again and was somewhat worse for wear. On my way home I decided to call in at my best friends house and she had some of our friends over, including Mr. Boo. Being worse for the wear, I don’t feel I made the best impression. Thankfully over the coming weeks and months, I managed to change that impression and our friendship blossomed – although he was told to stay away from me as I was too much trouble.
By the time September came around, we had become a couple, aged just 17 years old. Four years later we were married on our anniversary. The last time all our friends were together, as everyone seemed to head off and do their own thing after that.
Fast forward to today when we are celebrating our 13th wedding anniversary, also marking 17 years together – half a lifetime together. We’ve managed to squeeze in three children, two redundancies, several job changes, and a relocation. The road has had a few bumps and curves, however, we are here against all odds (our wedding song by Phil Collins)!
