Vitamins to Stock Up On For the Family

As parents, we all know one of our top priorities is promoting better health in our households and family. With that being said, it can be a serious challenge sometimes, especially when our children are very young, to get them to eat as nutritious as we’d like them to. Because of this fact, many parents turn to multivitamins for their children as they continue to instil healthy eating habits in their growing families. You may not be sure what to have on hand aside from a multivitamin, so let’s take a look at some vitamins to stock up on for the whole family.

Vitamins for all the family

Vitamin D

Vitamin D is an essential vitamin that many of us are lacking. In fact, over the last year and a half, you’ve probably heard of and learned more about vitamin D than you have in your entire life. The reality is, if you spend sufficient time outdoors and consume vitamin D-rich foods like mushrooms, yoghurts, soy, or fish, you may have a decent level, especially if you’re also supplementing with a multivitamin. But, when it comes to fall and winter, most of us are spending a lot of our time indoors, not catching that glorious vitamin D-filled sunrays.

So, it’s a good idea to have some vitamin D on hand for the whole family. The easiest way to take it is through a convenient spray that tastes delicious. Most families find this is quick and convenient for the adults in the household, but it’s an easy way to get children to take it as it’s just a quick spritz.

Elderberry

Elderberry is a potent antiviral that every household needs on deck as we enter cold and flu season. The great thing about elderberry is its taste – while unique and not quite as sweet as a strawberry or blueberry, kids still seem to enjoy it. The easiest way to make sure to get elderberry supplementation is through elderberry gummies because they’re almost like a bit of candy. Your whole family will enjoy the gummies. One way to go would be to include in their packed lunches for school along with their multivitamin gummies, almost like a dessert. Possibly refer to them as “vitamin candies” to your very young children.

For adults, there are, of course, gummies, syrups, and sprays, so you can go with whatever route you prefer. It’s also easy to make elderberry syrup at home if you feel adventurous or have the time. The bottom line, elderberries can be taken in small doses prophylactically during the cold season, and if you do come down with a bug, you want to increase the dose. If your child is very young (under four), make sure to check with your paediatrician about elderberry supplementation.

Vitamin C

We’ve all heard about the health benefits of Vitamin C since we were very young children. After all, Orange juice is a staple in most American households (and with good reason). Not only does Vitamin C boost your immunity, but it’s also necessary for the growth, development, and repair of all body tissues. So when you’re feeling under the weather, it’s a literal powerhouse. Even when completely healthy, it helps to keep you that way. As an adult, you want to be consuming around 2000mg a day. And, bonus, getting your optimum Vitamin C can even stave off or improve the appearance of wrinkles because of its help in producing collagen within the body. Bye, bye Botox, hello Vitamin C!

Probiotics

We all know how important of a role our gut health plays in overall wellness. Ensuring your entire family is taking a probiotic is critical in keeping everyone in peak immunity year-round. Probiotics are safe to be given to newborns, available in drop forms, so they’re incredibly safe and essential from the beginning of life. Probiotics can also be found tailored for certain issues since they’re made of varying and specific strains. So, if you need one for women’s issues, they’ve got you, for teens, etc. Make sure everyone in your family is taking probiotics daily to keep your gut in tip-top shape!

Navigating wellness for an entire household with specific dietary needs or lifestyle choices, like veganism, can feel overwhelming at times. Still, this list is an easy starting point of safe things and virtually everyone can take. So, as you’re prioritizing your list of household staples to keep in your kitchen or medicine cabinet, make these part of that arsenal. Here’s to your health!
