As the end of term approaches, the teachers are looking forward to a well-earned rest. The children are looking forward to a summer of fun. And the parents are busy organising next year’s school uniform before the panic buying happens at the end of August.
Personally, I like to have everything organised by the end of July so that I can make the most of August with the children. We can head off on days out without a checklist of school supplies nagging in my head.
I’ve started my back to school shopping already with a trip into the city to purchase school shoes under our belts. It was a trip that actually started online as Roo is now at the age where she wants more input into her wardrobe,including what she is able to wear for school. So without further ado, I’ll hand you over to Roo…
Tweens guide to shopping for school shoes
A girl can never have too many shoes and my school shoes are the one pair that I spend most of my life wearing so I need to make sure they are something I want to wear as well as being comfortable. School uniform is well school uniform and I’m unable to add my personal taste on it, however, backpack and my shoes are the two ways I get to express a little personality.
Shopping for school shoes starts online, Mummy kindly loads up the Debenhams website for me to bookmark the shoes that I like the look of before we head into the city for a spot of trying on (can’t beat a fashion parade). Being a girlie girl I would love a pair of sparkly heeled shoes, however, Mummy doesn’t agree so we’ve reached a compromise in that I can have wedged heels on my shoes as ‘they offer better support and are more practical than heels’.
With a pair of t-bar shoes in my head, we headed into Norwich for the large Debenhams store to try them on. This is the bit where I have to admit that Mummy was right as I found the shoes I wanted, tried them on but didn’t like them (I *may* have been a little grumpy when she said that I needed to try them on before she would buy them).
Anyway…
I decided to see what else was available on the shoe racks and came across the black patent wedge shoes. Being a girlie girl I would love a pair of sparkly heeled shoes, however, Mummy doesn’t agree so we’ve reached a compromise in that I can have wedged heels on my shoes as ‘they offer better support and are more practical than heels’. These offered the heel I wanted, the velcro strip which means I can get them on and off easily plus a little bit of glamour with the patent detail to the front and heel.

As Mummy keeps reminding me, ‘it’s not all about me‘ so we picked up Tigger some new school shoes too. He prefers a trainer style shoe with a velcro fastening, a hard-wearing sole and a tab at the back to help him pull them on himself – so Mummy grabbed him the black rip tape school trainers.
