I can always remember my Mam telling me what I nightmare I was at sleeping as a baby, I would wake up at 2am, 4am and 6am every night. That was until I stayed at my Granny’s house over night and I slept straight-through – now she lived in the countryside so you could have put it down to the fresh air, however I would put it down to my Granny not being a lady who you messed with (eek!).
As a teenager I loved my bed, I didn’t want to get out of it in a morning – mind you the late nights probably contributed to it my unwillingness to get up in a morning. When I left school I spent the summer working in factories, one of which required a 2 1/2 hour drive there each morning so would be collected in the works minibus at 3.00am, however the rest of the workers would place bets as to how long it would take me to fall asleep.
Having children has certainly changed my sleeping habits, from periods of feeling like I could sleep for England, to others when for whatever reason I am plagued by insomnia. Seeking help about getting a good nights sleep I asked some of my fellow bloggers what they recommend…
Top tips to help you get a good nights sleep
Screen time?
- Don’t spend your last hour or so staring at a screen (computer/TV). Go to bed an hour before you want to sleep with a hot, milky drink and do some light reading www.mummycentral.com
- I like to read before I go to sleep and it usually only takes me half an hour to get to the point where my eyes are wanting to close www.frugalfamily.co.uk
Preparation
- Wear socks in bed – I find it makes a huge difference www.beingmrsc.com
- Drink lots of water lifeatthezoo.com
- Try and get out your head all the worries about the next day, I tend to make a to do list and leave it on my desk before I end for the day so I don’t worry in bed www.thrifty-home.co.uk
Environment
- Invest in a good quality blackout blind – especially in the summer months you will be able to adjust your body to realise it is time to sleep if the room is dark
- White bedding! Apparently that’s why all the hotels use it! katetakes5.com
- Go to bed at pretty much the same time each evening and don’t have the room too warm www.mumssavvysavings.com
- Go to bed at the same time every night pinkoddy.co.uk/blog
