Bonfire Night is the perfect time for a get-together, whip up some good food and prepare your fireworks display to make sure your night goes off with a bang
“Remember, remember, the 5th of November!” Chances are though that in most years, Bonfire Night will have come and gone in the blink of an eye, so why not make this year’s celebrations more memorable? If this is your first time hosting a Bonfire Night party, or if you want some tips to improve on last year’s get-together, we’ve got you covered!
Plan Ahead
Whenever you’re hosting any kind of event, no matter what size, planning ahead is always a good idea. This doesn’t mean you need to have an hourly schedule of how the night should unfold, but it never hurts to know some of the basics.
How many people are you going to invite? Are they bringing their children? How long will your fireworks display go on for? These three questions alone will be a good start to planning the type of evening you plan to host.
Put On a Spread
You may want to use Bonfire Night as the perfect excuse to throw a dinner party or, weather depending, light up the barbecue. If your gathering is more casual, there will be less focus on food, but it’s a good idea to have some nibbles.
Some of your guests may have been expecting you to provide at least some food, or might not have had time to eat beforehand. If you have nothing to offer, you’re going to have a house full of hungry people. Hungry guests are unhappy guests – and as the host, it’s your job to make sure that doesn’t happen.
Plus, offering no food at all makes you look a little bit stingy.
Which Fireworks Should You Buy?
Bonfire Night wouldn’t be complete without a fireworks display to steal the show. When it comes to choosing fireworks, it will depend on where you will be letting them off and how much you are willing to spend.
With such a wide range of fireworks available to buy, your Bonfire Night celebrations can be as low-key or extravagant as you like. You’ll find that you can buy fireworks that are designed for small garden parties, meaning they will be safer to use in smaller areas and their cost won’t break the bank.
Buying fireworks online is bound to give you lots more variety and a better price than big chains. You’ll also be able to find specialist fireworks companies that have a wide range of high-quality products for differing types of firework displays.
Will Children Be Attending?
If children are attending your Bonfire Night festivities, you’ll need to make sure they’re accommodated for. This not only means you’ll have to have plenty of activities to keep them occupied (sparklers work wonders for this), but it also means you’ll need to buy fireworks that are suitable for kids.
Buying fireworks online are ideal because there is so much choice, meaning you won’t have a problem finding some that will be safe for your guests to use. Buying some sparklers and wheel fireworks are always a great choice to keep kids entertained. Barrage fireworks are also a popular option as they tend to contain a lot, but only require you to light it once.
Have a Backup Plan
Winter is coming! And as it gets nearer, you’ll continue to see the weather act accordingly, which can make it difficult when you’re trying to plan an outdoor get-together – especially if you happen to live in the UK.
Whether it’s pouring down with rain or too cold to be stood outside, it always pays to have a backup plan. If your initial plan was to have a garden party, nothing is stopping you bringing the festivities inside for a dinner party.
Doing so means that despite any bad weather, you and your guests can still make the most of the evening. If you have planned to set off some fireworks then you shouldn’t have any issues, even in bad weather. Just take care not to get the fireworks too wet while you’re setting up.
Bonfire Night is an ideal opportunity for a social gathering before the chaos of Christmas time ensues. The bright colours, flashes, and sound of a fireworks display to provide the perfect atmosphere for a cosy evening with your friends and family. November 5th is always an exciting night for the kids, and hosting your own celebration will make it all the more memorable.
