The start of the new tax year always makes me think about money, whether is be saving, spending or wishing I earned more of it. April sparks several money decisions in the Boo Roo and Tigger Too household…
Saving
With Mr. Boo’s redundancy last year it made us realise just how important any savings can be. So we have set up a standing order to take a set amount out of our bank account into a savings account every Monday morning. So ‘touch wood’ if nothing goes wrong this year we will at least have enough money for a nice Christmas or maybe a new TV if Mr. Boo gets his way.
Spending
Every year around this time I start to compare credit cards to make sure that I have the best rate available. With many companies offering discounted rates for 6, 12 or 18 months is worth making a note when your rate is coming to an end and start to shop around a month or so before it ends to see if you are still getting the best deal.
We all like to get something extra, that’s many people use loyalty cards when doing their shopping. Last year I swapped my points for Love2Shop vouchers from my reward credit card which really helped with buying Roo and Tigger’s birthday presents. This year I’m planning to save up my reward points for Currys vouchers toward that new TV that Mr. Boo keeps hinting at.
Earning
I often re-evaluate my job, it’s pay and career path. I don’t dislike my job, it frustrates me and I often wonder how senior management a) got their jobs and b) keep their jobs but I’m never going to be able to change that so I am forced to accept it. The pay isn’t as much as I would like, does anyone really get paid the amount they would like? However, if I was to do a similar role for a retail company etc I would be paid much less so I need to be grateful for what I do earn. Finally my career path… I don’t have one unless I switch to working full-time there is very little opportunity for me to progress up the food chain. Childcare is still a huge issue so full-time working for me is just achievable at the moment… maybe once Tigger has started full-time school.
