The Month that was… September 2019

October 1, 2019

September has been a hectic one, but then it always is. It marks the end of the school summer holidays where we are attempting to cram in the last days of fun before school starts and life returns to the usual routine. Not to mention family events and celebrations. This month has thrown a lot at me, at us all really but although I groan about it, I’m not sure I’d change the hecticness of our lives.

The month that was… September

Boo and What The Dad Said

As luck would have it the day the children returned to school was also our 15th wedding anniversary. So for the first time in I don’t know how long we were able to celebrate the day together as a couple (without the children tagging along for dinner etc). The day is always a bittersweet one, as we are reminded of that that we don’t have readily available childcare – plus only one person wished us a happy anniversary (but that’s nothing new and a very long story).

Besides our wedding anniversary, What The Dad Said became another year older. Whilst there are only three months between is, I do love that for those few months he is older than me in digits during that time – although, to anyone who asks, I’m still only 29 years old. His birthday didn’t quite go to plan, with him sitting in A&E for most of the evening with his best friend (rogue contact lens). Although we did manage to squeeze in an impromptu lunch date whilst the kids were at school. We have had a couple of birthday re-do’s with a dinner family and he had a night out with his friends.

Roo

A new school year has signalled the start of sports and performing arts events and rehearsals for Roo. Gaining two parts in the upcoming Christmas show ‘Grease’. With multi-gym, netball and badminton all added to her school schedule.

It’s not been plain sailing with Roo this month. Many testing times have taken place which has made me question whether we are doing the right things as parents. Are we getting things right? Are we expecting too much? Should we be looking at things differently? I’m not sure there are any hard and fast solutions so we are taking things one day at a time.

Tigger

A long-awaited trip to Marvel Universe Live! made his face light up this month. Watching the story unfold, the characters, stunts and special effects was something that he loved every minute of. A fantastic family show (which is running until December so do look out for tickets – www.marveluniverselive.com), which we all enjoyed.

His swimming has also seen a big improvement, gaining his 25m badge. It’s wonderful to see that this is all starting to pay off for him and he can now reap the rewards.

Communications skills, however, is something we have been working on with him this month. Listening to instructions and then acting upon them. He has a tendency to not listen and instead of asking about what he should be doing, he then doesn’t do anything. Frustrating to say the least!

Piglet

Nine months later than planned, Piglet finally started preschool. It was so lovely to see he stood with Roo and Tigger on the first day for those all-important back to school photos. She was beside herself at the prospect for putting on her very own school uniform – something that hasn’t worn off just yet (long may it continue). She is loving preschool and appears to be flourishing with all the different activities and tasks they get to enjoy.

Outside of preschool, she is continuing to rule the roost with her cute ways of making us all help her with things she is more than capable of completing herself.

Did you manage to survive back to school?
