Take a break: treat yourself to a self-soothing getaway

November 12, 2018

It’s November. You’ve just spent weeks running around for a specific Halloween costume for it to be worn once. Now it’s almost Christmas, and you’ve got lists as long as ten arms filled with jobs to do and presents to buy. It’s dark. It’s dismal. It’s cold. You’re long overdue a new scented candle and a bubble bath with wine. And frankly, you deserve to catch a break.

Or maybe even treat yourself to a luxury break

Everyone loves to get away on holiday with their youngsters. However, when you’re browsing for family holidays, it does tend to narrow down the style of holiday that you go for.

You might be partial to a Center Parcs lodge during the autumn. Maybe you like to head over for an all-inclusive package in the Canaries. Package city breaks… to Disneyland? And while all these breaks are perfect in their own way, brimming with wonderful moments that the best memories are built on, the primary take-home feel doesn’t tend to be tranquillity.

It’s time to enjoy a little touch of luxury

Whether you’re a mum who leaves the house every morning for work or a dad who stays at home to look after the kids, we all put in some serious graft. Perhaps it’s time to enjoy a little touch of luxury? Whether that’s with the kids, our all for our grown-up selves.

Imagine!

A train traveling over a bridge

For example, I’ve been looking at these incredible hotels in Mussoorie, North India, not too far from Dehradun. How incredible would it be to get away, on a break in the middle of lush green landscapes, with nothing to do but meander through the scenic landscapes, relax by the hillside pools, and enjoy the stylish, chic hotel room interiors. Heaven.

If you woke up one morning and simply “felt like it”, you could head over to SOHAM Heritage and Art Centre, and soak up some local culture. Maybe take a trek through the Jabarkhet Wildlife Reserve. It is, after all, one of the most beautiful areas of India.

No pressure, though. No deadlines. No school runs. No schedules.

Maybe it’s time to take a break and afford ourselves a little luxury. At a time when we so naturally think of others and allow pressures to pile on, and on and on and on. It could be that in the run-up to Christmas, we take some much-needed time out to recuperate, so we can fully enjoy the season itself.

And if you can’t quite stretch to the extravagance of such hotels in Mussoorie, for whatever reason, don’t rule out the prospect of a peaceful jaunt entirely. Consider mini-breaks in laid-back Italian cities, a retreat in the Norwegian mountains, an indulgent weekend in the south of France.

Whatever you choose to do, even if it’s a calm and quiet weekend in the British Lake District, don’t let the rush and chaos of Christmas pull you down. Remember to be mindful, self-soothe, and take yourself away from the mayhem. At least for a little while.
