With Mr Boo working in Norwich I like to take the children into the city at least once a month so that we can meet Daddy from work and enjoy a family meal together. Last week we visited The Nelson, a Table Table restaurant located on the riverside opposite the Norwich train station and next door to a Premier Inn it is in an ideal location for locals, commuters and tourists to enjoy a meal.
Table Table | The Nelson, Norwich
Table Table The Nelson, Norwich celebrated its 50th anniversary last year which will give you some indication as to how well-loved and established this riverside restaurant is. It may have been open for 50 years however the interior doesn’t reflect the years it has that wonderful mixture of a traditional pub restaurant whilst still looking clean and modern. With a wide selection of different seating options from bar tables, nooks, family tables and some outside riverside tables to choose from it caters for almost everyone.
Parking
Free parking available on site for restaurant customers, however as the car park is shared between the restaurant, Premier Inn guests and HM Customs (weekdays only) it can be a little busy at times. There is a new car park under construction on Rose Lane which will be a great alternative if there are no spaces available.
Menu selection
Winter Menu
Taking a look at the main winter menu Mr Boo and I were spoilt for choice. With a great selection of starters and mains to choose from I must admit to being rather indecisive. In the end I opted for the potato dippers to start followed by the streaky bacon and cheese topped chicken breast. Whilst Mr Boo chose calamari to start followed by the double stack steak burger.
Terrible Tudors Kids Menu
The kids menu is in the style of Horrible Histories and each child is given a fabulous activity pack to complete whilst they are waiting for their meal. Kids meals start at just £3.99 for a main meal and either a starter or dessert can be added on free of charge. With a larger selection of dishes available on the menu it was nice to see that children are able to have a good range of foods to choose from. Roo loved that she could order a Babyccino from the drinks menu.
Service
Arriving at The Nelson just before the early evening rush we were seated straight away on a family table overlooking the river. Our waiter Ben introduced himself and offered to get us some drinks whilst we looked over the menu. Throughout the meal Ben popped over to the table to ensure that we had everything we needed and brought our refill drinks to the table (so much nicer than going to a machine and doing it yourself).

Boo Roo and Tigger Too’s thoughts…
Both the service and food we received during our time at The Nelson was faultless. The food arrived in a timely manner and we were able to order more drinks and request additional sauces etc as needed without feeling like we were being a nuisance. With us visiting the riverside area to make us of the cinema and bowling facilities I can see us visiting The Nelson again very soon.
Disclosure: We received a £60 gift voucher towards the cost of our meal for the purpose of review.
