One of my memories of summer holidays with my Grandad was taking walks down to the river with him and his border collie, Gwen. During our walks he would attempt to teach me the fine art of stone skimming whilst we stood on the river bank… I say attempt as I still can’t manage to get it right.
After failing miserably once again at stone skimming I would opt on collecting beautiful stones to take back to their house (something my children do every time we go to the beach). Once we were back at my grandparent’s house I would colour the stones in felt tip pen or if my Granny wasn’t baking I was allowed to get the paints out and let my creative juices flow.
Painting stones has to be one of the easiest and cheapest crafts to get your children involved in. Stones can be found like hidden treasure whilst on walks in the woods, on the way to school or along the beach, whilst paints and brushes can be picked up at your local Poundland store.
