With the schools just days away from closing their doors for summer. I have been busy planning our summer family adventures. Unfortunately, we are still no closer to an outcome for Roo’s recent knee injury so our family adventures will be somewhat limited this summer to accommodate her reduced mobility. Although she has signed up to volunteer at a disabled children’s summer camp two days a week – both to help gain hours for her Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award and to try her hand at something new and give a little something back.
Our summer family adventures
Norfolk
- Circus CORTEX UK – Is it summer if you don’t have all the fun of the circus? With a girls day out planned with Me, Him, The Dog and a Baby, we are hoping to get our little girls together to have a day of fun in Cromer before heading to see Circus CORTEX UK.
- GoGoDiscover Tyrannosaurus Rex – Having previously enjoyed exploring Norwich City with the GoGoDiscover trails, I’m so pleased to see that they have managed to bring it back this year. Featuring 21 colourful T. Rex sculptures they are placed all around the city. Hopefully making for a wonderful day out or two (depending on how many we manage to find).
- Great Yarmouth – Having lived in Great Yarmouth for a number of years, we were able to take advantage of the great selection of attractions and activities available. In recent years we haven’t really spent much time back in my children’s hometown so it will be lovely to spend a day being tourists again. It will be wonderful to discover the new Rock Pool Explorer at SEA LIFE Great Yarmouth, have all the fun of the Hippodrome Circus as well as enjoy a tropical Coaster Cabana evening at Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach.
- Happisburgh Lighthouse – Ever since I went on a school trip to see a lighthouse when I was younger I have found myself captivated by them. There is something powerful, yet magical about them. Having lived in Norfolk for over 20 years I still haven’t managed to see Happisburgh Lighthouse so I’m hoping that this summer I can finally cross it off my list.
- Hemsby – When I first moved to Norfolk, we lived just down the coast from Hemsby and would visit here almost every day. Walking along the sand dunes, playing in the arcades and having fun at the fair. A traditional seaside day out without it being as overwhelming as a larger seaside town.
- High Altitude – The children loved having a trampoline in the garden, but sadly we have never replaced the one that was damaged in the storms. Although we have never been to a trampoline park, so I’m looking to rectify this over the summer.
- INTERLUDE in the CLOSE – Theatre is back! So pleased to see the return of theatre with an incredible line up of acts and shows across the summer. Interlude in the Close has a little something for everyone, and I’ve managed to book a few shows with the children as well as with friends too.
- UK Adventure Trails (Norfolk) – Getting outdoors and exploring is part and parcel of any childhood. New for this year, UK Adventures Trails are headed to Raynham, Norfolk. With over 90 sculptiures hidden in the forest, I think that this will be something that both Tigger and Piglet will enjoy.
- Wroxham Barns –
Cambridgeshire
- Cambridge City Break – It’s been a while since we enjoyed a city break as a family, however, they do offer a great opportunity to get away and explore an area over a couple of days. Fitting in between work shifts and the chaos that is family life. Whilst I have been to Cambridge for day trips, I haven’t explored the city in great depth, so I’m hoping that our stay at the Hilton Cambridge City will provide us with the perfect base for our family adventures.
- Cows About Cambridge – What better way to explore a city than by taking part in a trail. This summer Cambridge has gone udderly mootastic (did you like the puns?) with their very own Cows About Cambridge. Featuring 90 cow sculptures based all around the city, I’ve downloaded the app and can’t wait to do this with the children.
Merlin Annual Passes
Having had our Merlin Annual Passes extended due to the lockdown from last year I had hopes that we’d make the most of these over the summer. Sadly due to Roo’s injury, it’s not practical for us to visit the theme parks. Our passes run through to mid-December so hopefully, we can book in a few autumn family adventures once we know what’s happening with her knee.
What family adventures are you planning this summer?
