When I think about the technology that we have at our fingertips I do wonder how we even managed without it. Personally, I see it as a bonus to our children who are growing up in a technology-filled age. They can access tablets and apps both at home and at school. Complete homework online and with Roo at the high school all of her messages from teachers and even school payments are all completed online too.
When it comes to finding age-appropriate apps for my children to access. I have to confess that they only have a handful of them downloaded to their tablets. This is because apps like the Sky Kids App houses both games and TV content which they love – so why download anything else? We’ve been using Sky Kids for around 3-4 years and it has been utilised by both Roo and Tigger. With Piglet now starting to get in on the action – especially as she has discovered the Julia Donaldson book/films.
Who can access the Sky Kids app?
The Sky Kids app is available for Sky customers who have the Variety and Box Set Bundle (Family Bundle). Customers with Sky Go Extra, Sky Multiscreen or Sky Q multiscreen can also download shows. Although all customers are able to download games to play wherever they go.
It’s currently available to download on tablets via the Google Play, Apple Store and it is available on Amazon Kindle (although currently via an adults profile – Amazon are working on a solution). It is due to be released on mobile soon – which will be great for any sudden hold-ups in traffic etc. and you need to entertain the kids.
That’s my Sky Kids!
Having more than one child accessing content on the same tablet can be a nightmare. Especially when they just want to jump on and continue watching whatever it was they were enjoying on their last session. Sky Kids allow you to set up profiles for each of the children, complete with their own personalised buddy. Which can be updated and changed as often as they decide – funky glasses anyone?
Each profile can be personalised to the child’s age and even screen time limits added. For example, they can’t access before 7am or after 6pm.
Age-Appropriate Content
With a range of content from 16 channels (including Cartoon Network, Disney Junior and Nick). All containing over 5000 episodes all available on demand (and download subject to your contract) – you’ll be sure to find something that will keep everyone entertained. And I’ve not even touched on the games section which can have children (and adults) passing the time away attempting to win or better still competing against each other’s scores.
Take Sky Kids with you wherever you go
At home, the Sky Kids app is something the children can open up and enjoy an episode or two of their favourite series. As well as take part in a range of educational games or quizzes to get them learning through play (and they don’t even realise it – parent win!). Perfect for when they want some quiet time away from siblings, winding down after a day at school or as a reward for completing chores – however, your family chooses to do screen time. We find it a perfect way to speed up the morning routine as the quicker Tigger is up, dressed, fed and ready for school, the longer he gets on Sky Kids before school. It’s amazing how quick he can do it all when he wants to watch an episode or two of LEGO Ninjago before school.
It can really come into its own on the move. So whether you are heading off on a day trip in the car, jetting off on holiday or just passing the time away whilst sitting at the doctors/dentist/A&E (let’s face it, parents, that is where we spend most of our time).
Who said it was just for kids?
Although the targetted market for the app is children aged 2-10 years, I would say that it appeals to tweens and dare I say it, Mums and Dads, too. As I can often find Mr Boo huddled around Tigger’s tablet watching an episode or two of Apple and Onion!
