Being a mom in the middle of a global health crisis is no joke. Rather than allowing it to consume you, take a look at these self-care tips for moms to take care of themselves. Doing so will ensure that you can continue to be there for your loved ones as you weather the storm.

Depending on where you live in the world, you’ve been on lockdown for nearly a year now. Your children are learning from home, and you and your spouse are either unemployed or working remotely. It’s a full house 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Though you know staying close to home is the most effective way to safeguard your family’s health, it’s been quite the adjustment – especially for mothers.

A Full House Means More Responsibilities

With everyone home all the time you’re needed a lot more than usual. You’re preparing three meals a day, cleaning up more messes, assisting the children with classwork, working eight or more hours, and trying to find ways to keep the kids entertained throughout the day. Some adults had to start caring for aging loved ones during the pandemic – which is a challenge by itself.

Sure, you’ve got help from your significant other and older children, but managing all these changes is a lot. Not to mention the psychological toll these uncertain times have had on your emotional well-being. At this point, you’re probably feeling worn down

Little Things Can Make a Big Impact

As much as your family needs you right now, continuing to take on these responsibilities without tending to yourself will backfire. Now more than ever, you must prioritize your health and happiness. Though you might argue that you don’t have the time or energy, doing simple things to enhance your physical, mental, and emotional well-being can go a long way. Not sure what to do? Self-Care Tips For Moms During Lockdown

Go For a Walk

Being cooped up in the house all day does something to your psyche. Not to mention, it’s terrible for your health. So, dedicate at least 15 minutes of your day to taking a walk. The fresh air is good for your lungs, and the sunlight is ideal for healthy bones and flawless skin. At the same time, connecting with nature will lift your spirits.

Eat Breakfast

Here’s something moms tend to forget – eating breakfast. You’re so busy trying to ensure the kids are fed and prepared for the homeschooling day that you forget all about yourself. As breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day, you must fit it into your schedule. Make yourself a smoothie, have some yoghurt, granola, and fresh fruit, or make some pancakes and scrambled eggs. It gives you the energy you need to get through the first few hours of the day.

Get Dressed

When you’re working from home or in the house all day, the desire to get dressed goes out the window. While it’s nice to lounge around in your pyjamas on occasion, after a while, it can cause you to get depressed. Though you don’t have to put on office attire, getting dressed each day can make you feel better. Throw on an athleisure set, a pair of jeans, a t-shirt, and a cardigan, or even a pair of tights and a comfy sweater.

Grooming

Getting dressed isn’t the only thing that people have stopped during the lockdown; there’s also grooming. If it’s been a while since you did your hair, put on makeup, or did your nails, switch up your routine for a boost of confidence. A simple online search like haircut San Diego (or wherever you live) can route you to the nearest barber for a new hairstyle. Complete your skincare and beauty routine, and give yourself a manicure.

Schedule “Me Time”

With all that’s going on in your life, you have to find time for yourself. This is an uninterrupted time when you can focus on things that make you feel good. Schedule at least an hour of me-time each day. During this time, do something you enjoy. Whether it’s reading a book, painting, doing a puzzle, or snuggling up in your favourite blanket to watch TV, it can help relieve stress.

Being a mom in the middle of a global health crisis is no joke. Your role and responsibilities increase exponentially. After doing this for almost a year, chances are it’s weighed on you physically and emotionally. Rather than allowing it to consume you, start doing simple things like those listed above to take care of yourself. Doing so will ensure that you can continue to be there for your loved ones as you weather the storm.
