When did life become so hectic?
I don’t remember rushing from one thing to the next when I was younger, taking the time to enjoy a long soak in the bath or settling on the sofa to read a good book. These days life is a series of school runs, work, housework and entertaining children… not that I’m complaining, I love my life.
There are times when I could actually do with clearing my head, sitting down without any distractions and just watch the world go by. I’m lucky that where we live there are several local spots that I can go for a relaxing stroll, take a load off and sit down for a while or go and feed the ducks.
After a hectic couple of weeks and a few late nights I woke this morning with a dull headache, my bodies way of telling me to slow down and to look after myself better. This morning marked my first child free morning for a couple of weeks as I had been helping out at school before half term and then with half term last week I was either at work or out and about with the children. So after dropping Tigger off at pre-school and Roo at school I decided to head home down the seafront and pop into The Waterways for a little stroll.
The Waterways
The Venetian Waterways, Great Yarmouth, adjacent to the North Beach is a tranquil place for visitors to enjoy. A popular haven for ducks and heron, it’s a great place to stop and relax for a while.
Whenever I find that life is going at 100 miles an hour, my patience is running low or like this morning my head was aching I try to take 10, 15 or even 30 minutes to myself and head to The Waterways…
Taking a stroll around the many paths, over the bridges or down the steps there is a different path for each visit making it feel like a new adventure each time.
Sitting watching the water flow by, the ducks swimming and the birds flying overhead it is easy for me to clear my mind and think about the simpler things in life.
Wandering in and out of the many gazebos, peering over the gate to the boating lake and enjoying a drink at the Waterways Cafe.
Enjoying a relaxing trip to The Waterways is easy when the children are at school however it is a great place to take the children too. They can feed the ducks, scoot down the path ways, play pooh sticks or gaze out over the wind turbines at Scroby Sands, as well as an ice cream from the Waterways Cafe in the summer.
Where is your better place?
Do you have somewhere you head to when you want to relax, clear your head and forget the everyday life?
