Ghostly Greetings: Get your Halloween decorations up NOW!
Gone are the days when Halloween was a one-night celebration, as soon as the calendar flips over to mark the start of October you’ll find friends and family members preparing their homes for the season. Decorating the house in Halloween inspired decorations, think bats, think ghosts and ghouls, and cobwebs (many of these will naturally find a few of these dotted around the house). It’s time to embrace the celebrations and showcase your decorating skills to your neighbours – we are fondly known as the Halloween house on the corner as What The Dad Said likes to all out.
Welcoming Trick or Treaters
Trick or Treating (or Halloweening as it was called up north when I was little) is one of those rights of passage through a child’s childhood. Whilst we may not live in the world we once did back in the good old days, safety and safeguarding is always something that we should consider when it comes to Trick or Treating. Having an adult present when taking little ones to knock on doors, as well as an adult present when answering the door to Trick or Treaters too. Only visiting houses where friends and family live so you know who is behind the door etc.
The pumpkin rule
My neighbourhood operates on the pumpkin rule for Trick or Treaters… If there is a pumpkin outside then it is OK to knock for Trick or Treating. If there is no pumpkin, please leave the occupants alone and continue on to the next house. This works really well with the children and families in the area understanding and accepting that not everyone wishes to participate in the celebrations.
Sweet Treats
I’d like to think that we all offer more treats than tricks on Halloween, with deals on sweet treats making it more affordable to stock up for those knocking on your door. We also like to add in some fruit and Fruit Bowl treats to give kiddies the variety when selecting what they would like to take home with them.
Halloween at home
For many reasons, you may not be heading out to complete Trick or Treating with family and friends, and that’s OK. There is no reason to still make the most of the season by decorating the house and maybe even the garden. Whilst you might think that a hunt around the house and garden is limited to Easter, you’d be wrong – Halloween is the perfect time to enjoy some Halloween at home games.
