Today marks the beginning of silly season in the blogging world.
Today the nominations for the MADs blog awards opens, and what follows is badges appearing on blogs across the country and quite possibly a few begging posts about why you should nominate them in whichever category.
The opening of the nomination paves the way for other blogging awards to open their nominations soon, for which you will be treated to another ‘please vote for me‘ post.
Personally it’s not for me
I have never really bought into the whole popularity contest, voting for friends rather than content just seems silly to me. Voting competitions (lets face it this is a competition) are open to rigging, they are very difficult to manage and regulate. Votes can be begged for and bought, even with a panel of judges you will only ever get their opinion on which blog/blogger/content is the best and again maybe swayed by personal opinion.
If a blog posts content that may not be similar to your experiences or lifestyle does that make them any less worthy of having their name in the pot?
Should blogs be assessed on content rather than the number of page views, social media followers or how many friends they have? Personally I would hope so but the cynic in me thinks that popularity will always play a large part.
Don’t get me wrong everyone wants to have that little recognition that they are doing well in their field, but do we really need an awards ceremony to get that pat on the back?
