DreamWorks Dragons Dawn of New Riders // Game Play
You play as scribbler and the dragon patch, in the search to regain his memory (no spoilers for why and what happened) while searching to defeat the Villan Eir. On the journey, you meet other popular characters from How To Train Your Dragon story. This is set before the third film, and you don’t get to play with any of the characters as this is about Scribbler and Patch. They are set around key locations in the franchise like Havenholme and Valkas Mountain, though there are new islands to discover that haven’t been mentioned yet.
The game its self is a top-down adventure with several puzzles and mysteries to solve, with action battles against foes and dragons. The main villain Eir is controlling dragons and a quest to battler her she several times too. You go through several Locations while flying and use if the map shows you how much there is to discover. There is a lot of writing and reading as no characters are voiced only with the odd laugh, grunt or noise, it’s text-based.
The graphics are nice with a slight anime style on the drawings and the rest of the designs based on the franchise. The scenes and maps are pretty aswell as were the designs of the dragons. The buttons aren’t over complicated and you slowly unlock more abilities and powers for both characters as the game goes on.
Final thoughts…
In all its a well put together game, some bits are challenging and I had to help, though Tigger did learn after several failed attempts in some of the puzzles. The dragon flying was fun and I think he enjoyed that especially. I don’t think he was too fussed about not playing as Hiccup or Toothless etc… But it’s worth warning someone if they were buying it for that reason. But Tigger enjoyed it, there was progression, stories, puzzles and challenges with lots to do.
