Living in a tourist resort we have to count ourselves lucky in that we have access to different types of activities, venues and events throughout the year. On Friday it was the turn of our three local museums to take part in the Museums at Night #MatN2014 event. It was a free event that allowed both locals and visitors to Great Yarmouth the opportunity to visit the Time and Tide Museum, Tolhouse Museum and the Elizabethan House Museum and partake in the activities that had been laid on.
As we are Norfolk Museum Pass Holders Boo Roo and Tigger Too are very much familiar with the three museums however they take on a different feel at night time (especially the Tolhouse Museum). Starting our Museums at Night adventure just after 6pm it was still nice and light so we were able to enjoy the outdoor activities that were held in the Time and Tide Museum courtyard.
If children dressed up they were able to select something from the lucky dip, so Roo and Tigger were keen to join in on the action with Roo dressing up as Harry Potter…
Tigger opted for his favourite dress up costume of Buzz Lightyear…
With events being held at all three museums we headed to the Tide and Tide Museum first (Roo’s favourite of the three), we were greeted by familiar faces and welcomed in to see the attractions and activities that they had available.
With a mixture of activities including making a baby dinosaur, with Norfolk’s notorious clowns, Cosmo Hardy & Jo Fool entertained us with their Steampunk slapstick humour while Gavin, the stilt walker walks tall. Tigger couldn’t believe just how tall he was, ‘even bigger than a giraffe Mummy!‘. Lucus along with his accordion playing assistant, Wilson demonstrated extraordinary skill, dexterity and musical mayhem with their juggling double act.
Roo was keen to see what was going on at the other two museums so we popped in the car and headed off (they are only about 10-15 min walk apart but not fancying the walk with two fancy dressed children I’m afraid I opted to drive). Both the Elizabethan House Museum and the Tolhouse Museum offered different activities, however they were held indoors and as it was free event they were very busy. Roo did however enjoy a good sing-a-long with the wartime band in the Elizabethan House Museum, even getting them to do a rendition of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
The Tolhouse Museum I personally always find a bit spooky as it was a court house and jail many moons ago, with the prison cells in the basement open for viewing. So I was thankful that Tigger started to get tired and I was able to pop him home to Mr Boo before heading back out with Roo to enjoy the fire show back at the Time and Tide Museum.
The highlight of the night had to be the Spectacular Foolhardy Circus Fire Show Finale. Starting at 9pm I was surprised to see that Roo was still full of energy and was very excited about being up late to see the show.

Time for a cheeky selfie whilst waiting for the fire show to start…
With the show starting we where treated to several juggling acts including one with knives (black handles against a darkening sky not necessarily the best combination). The highlight of the finale show had to be the fire show which had us all oohing and aahing as they were more and more adventurous with the flames.
I managed to film some of the action from the fire show to share with you…
We had an amazing night, both Roo and Tigger enjoyed themselves and I really loved getting to spend some quality time with Roo whist watching the fire show finale.
Disclosure: We attended the Museums at Night event FOC because we wanted to and just wanted to share our fun filled night out with you all.
