If there is one set of books that I can remember from my childhood it has to be the Mr Men and Little Miss collection. Those infamous little white books that are bursting with a funny tale from one of the Mr Men or Little Miss characters. As I grew older I became aware of the merchandise that was available alongside the books and can remember having a Little Miss Naughty t-shirt in my late teens.
The books are something that I have passed down to my children and they love to select which character they want to read about today. We love that the Mr Men and Little Miss characters can be paired up with different people’s personalities. So much so that when Tigger left pre-school his teachers bought each child a Mr Men book depending on their personality. I did chuckle when Tigger opened his… Mr Fussy – a perfect fit!
Earlier this year we celebrated Roger Hargreaves 90th birthday with a Mr Men Birthday Party and to get into the spirit of things we decided to make our own Mr Men and Little Miss costumes. Opting for their personalities, Roo had Little Miss Chatterbox and Tigger sticking with Mr Fussy.
Mr Men Little Miss Mini Museum
Mr Men Little Miss have recently announced the launch of a pop-up exhibition for children (of all ages) to celebrate the brand’s 45th birthday. Held at London’s South Bank, the museum has been designed specifically with kids in mind, with exhibits displayed at a child’s scale throughout. Which is something we are very excited about and are hoping to be able to visit.
The exhibition will feature hundreds of pieces of memorabilia from the past 45 years, celebrating the nation’s favourite Mr Men and Little Miss characters. Fans will be able to add their own memorabilia to the exhibition via the Mr Men Little Miss virtual archive, by simply uploading an image of their favourite item on their phone or laptop. Consumer items uploaded to the virtual archive will be on display on rolling screens at the exhibition, alongside physical items, creating an ever-changing exhibition of the nation’s most-loved Mr Men and Little Miss memorabilia. The first 45 people to upload an item to the virtual archive will receive a limited edition print signed by Adam Hargreaves.
Open during the last week of the summer holidays, the Mr Men Little Miss Mini Museum takes place at Gallery@OXO, beneath the iconic OXO Tower on London’s South Bank. Fans old and new can explore the collection, add their own pieces to the exhibition via the virtual archive, take time out in the Mr Men Little Miss story time library area, and take snaps of themselves inside a specially created ‘Happyland’ backdrop alongside their favourite Mr Men & Little Miss characters. The exhibition will also include a personalisation stand for visitors to take home their very own personalised print of a Mr Men or Little Miss character as a memento.
The Mr Men Little Miss Mini Museum will be open between Thursday 25th August and Monday 29th August 2016. The exhibition takes place at Gallery@OXO, situated on the ground floor of the OXO Tower on London’s South Bank.
Fans can upload their memorabilia to the Mr Men Little Miss archive at www.mrmen.com/archive
