In my life before children, I would kid myself into thinking that I was able to multitask with the best of them. Working in an administration environment it was common practice to be taking a phone call, typing something up on the computer, whilst calling another patient through to clinic etc. Heading into motherhood I knew that there would new skills that I would have to learn but hey I had multitasking down to a fine art.
Or so I thought.
Then enters this tiny human being who depends on you for everything. Soon I began to realise what true multitasking was all about. From ensuring I got Mr. Boo to cut up my dinner (like a child) so that I would be able to eat it with one hand. As the other was need to feed, burp, cuddle or rock my little one. The same goes for preparing lunches, hanging out the washing, washing the dishes etc all whilst holding a baby in my arms.
It’s not all bad, it taught me how to prioritise things, which tasks could wait and which ones were a necessity – Top tip: Always wash the bottles as the last one is used, they will want their need feed quicker than you thought.
It has taught me that baby wipes can be used for a whole host of things other than just wiping bottoms. Whether it is clearing up vomit, snot, wiping the coffee table as unexpected guests knock on the door and every other surface between you and the door. Baby wipes will soon be an every week essential alongside milk and bread. The Aldi Mamia Sensitive wipes are fantastic – not only kind to bums, faces, hands and everywhere else they manage to get food/felt tip pen and lord know what else. But they are strong, durable and perfect for getting your kitchen taps to shine.
Having the children has meant that I get to spend much more time in the bathroom. Because no matter how much the grumble about ‘I don’t want to go in the bath‘ they are always in there long enough that I have to top up the bath water with more hot.
This is where my multitasking has really come its own. Whilst each one of the children takes their bath I have several options. Jump in with them as they somehow manage a longer time in the bathtub than I could ever manage on my own. This has added benefits in that I can use their Aldi Mamia Baby Shampoo on my hair as it smells amazing plus really does add a lovely shine to my hair.
Or I could use this time to clean the bathroom (see the previous comment about baby wipes cleaning taps – fab at getting rid of toothpaste too). Using cotton wool pads that were once purchased to remove my nail varnish when I fancied a change of colour. Now they are using to buff up the mirror in the bathroom, and perfect for makeshift eye patches and bandages when the children are playing doctors.
Can you guess which option I opt for?
Seriously, though, whilst I am always thankful for my children. It is the learning curve they have put me on that I’m grateful for.
