Motherhood – bed of roses?

March 26, 2014

When you fall pregnant you start reading all baby books you can find and buying those glossy baby magazines like they are going out of fashion. What those book and magazines don’t tell you is what motherhood is really like.

Whilst friends who I was pregnant with at the same time kept talking about how great motherhood was going to be, all the things they had planned whilst they were on maternity leave etc. Motherhood was going to be all fresh flowers, play dates, making crafts and cakes all day long.

I went into motherhood thinking that I would find it difficult. I am grumpy when I am tired, I cannot deal with vomit, and the idea of attending a baby & toddler group sent shivers down my spine. I love both Roo and Tigger dearly, I truly do but motherhood is not something that comes naturally to me

Motherhood is Roo shouting from the bathroom… ‘Mum, Mum, Mum! Tigger has poo’d in the bath!’

Motherhood is Roo vomiting in back of the car into her hands so not to get it on her clothes, but then tipped it everywhere whilst trying to get seatbelt off

Motherhood is the toughest job I will ever have

Maybe this Mother’s Day I’ll be treated to a lie in, breakfast in bed, some beautiful flowers (like these ones from Fresh Flowers) and some chocolates to help me realise that motherhood is all worth it.

Disclosure: This post is brought to you in collaboration with Fresh Flowers, although I am really not a natural mother
