Life in Lockdown | Living in a bubble {Week 11}

The end of another week in lockdown and also the end of our second month full month. I do feel as though the time is starting pass by so quickly and before I know it another week has ended. When I think back to the beginning of lockdown and how I worried we’d fill the days at home, now I’m wondering how we are meant to fit in ‘real-life’ into our lives.

Living in a bubble

I’m struggling with how to answer the question of how we are coping/managing in the lockdown. The reality depends on what day you ask the question and also what time of the day. I mentioned recently that in many ways life hadn’t changed for us when the reduced lockdown measures were announced. Something which led to a couple of comments about how we were living in a bubble and a privileged existence.

At the time I took these comments to heart, however, as the days have passed I can look at them more adjustable. I can see why it looks like we’re living in a bubble – in many ways we are. Shut away from the world, enjoying time (on the whole) as a family. There are elements to our life that I can’t and won’t share on here or on social media. Like anything you see in life you are only shown what people want you to see. You don’t see the sadness, the heartbreak or anxieties if that person doesn’t wish to share them. Our life is no different, just because I don’t share about the difficulties in our life, doesn’t mean that we don’t have them.

COVID-19 negative

After over a week of waiting we finally received notifications that Roo’s COVID-19 swab test for the Imperial College London was indeed negative. Not that we had any reason to suspect that it would be positive, but good to have the confirmation.

Children’s play area

It’s been a hive of activity in the garden this week. With a local gardening company coming over to section off any area of the garden to house the children’s new Wickey Multiflyer climbing frame. We can’t believe how different the garden looks and so lovely to have a safe dedicated area for them to play in. There are still a few finishing touches to add (got to get the bunting up!) but hopefully, we’ll manage to get these completed this coming week.

Happy Campers

Another bank holiday weekend plus the start of the half-term holidays meant that the older two children had the chance to get the tent back out in the garden. Enjoying a few nights under canvas – thankfully the weather was kinder to them this time around. With Roo’s mattresses from her IKEA Hemnes day bed and facilities on hand, it was more like glamping than camping.

A cracking time

on my way home from completing my chores this week, I managed to get a double chip and a partial crack in my windscreen. A stone flicked up from another vehicle, causing an almighty whack to the windscreen. With the damage on the drivers side and over 1cm I’ve got to have a replacement windscreen fitted. That’s £115 excess to pay and it can’t be fitted until early next week. Just what I needed!

May half-term

Whilst it may have been the May half-term holidays, we opted to keep Tigger and Roo completing schoolwork/tasks in the mornings. With the rest of the day to themselves to play consoles, puzzles, chat to friends etc. Tigger still had a number of suggested activities available to him on his Seesaw app. Whereas Roo, didn’t have anything in Google Classroom so I managed to put her to work completing some of my long overdue blog admin – but don’t worry she’s gaining extra pocket money for helping.
