Have you ever questioned what it is that makes you so special? Last year whilst watching a TV series that we’d downloaded there was an episode in which a young mum goes for a job interview. In that interview, she is asked what makes you so special – she pauses and tries to think of an answer before replying… Nothing. I’m just a mum. With that, she gets up and walks away. At that moment the tears rolled down my face, it really struck a chord with me. This scene is one that I have replayed in my mind many times since. None more so than this past week.
Last week I was tagged in a special tweet from Vuelio. Informing me that I was named as a finalist in their Vuelio Blog Awards 2018. The tweet came the day that Piglet should have been having her operation to remove her tonsils and adenoids, however, it had been cancelled the previous afternoon. So this tweet managed to make me cry happy tears for a change and brightened up a rough couple of weeks with Piglet’s health.
A complete honour to be shortlisted alongside some of the blogging big names. Then the pessimist in me started to question why me? why my blog? what makes my blog special enough to be shortlisted? Questions it seems that others also thought and vocalised between themselves.
And just like in traditional workplaces, families and friends – bloggers like to gossip too! With these conversations, feedback to me by well-meaning friends. Not wanting to know the details of who these bloggers were, with the thought alone making me sad and question everything about blogging. I’m happy to live in blissful ignorance – It’s much better than bitterness I would feel every time I saw their name(s) pop up on my social media timelines.
Knowing that there were these conversations happening it did help make me the decision not to attend the awards ceremony.
At the end of the day, I’m just a mum, I’m not special to anyone other than my children.
