That’s it, the children have finally finished school for the summer holidays. Something that we have all been looking forward to. The children have worked hard throughout the school year and deserve some time to recharge their batteries, some time to have fun, some time to just be children.
Adopting a day on, day off schedule throughout the summer I’m hoping to keep them occupied with fun days at home as well as outings to the park, picnics and days out. The start of the holidays started with a busy day as we needed to head back to the seaside to get Tigger’s haircut (I still haven’t found local barbers for him), grab some little bits and bobs in the town before heading over to see family to celebrate a birthday. We left the house at 8am and finally managed to get home a 4.30pm, not exactly the relaxing start that I’d imagined but it was a fun day.
Yesterday we stayed at home all day, which allowed me to catch up on washing and household chores whilst the children made the most of our garden and the beautiful weather. I don’t remember the start of the summer holidays ever being this hot before, so they have been very lucky. Although I really need to buy a paddling pool to help them cool down as we are missing the cool breeze from the sea. They had a fabulous day in the garden, playing football, building dens, playing swingball and tag.
As I watched them play it made me realise that the upheaval of moving earlier in the year, moving schools etc for a bigger home with a much-wanted garden was worth it. They are happy, they are carefree, they are enjoying their childhood.
