Why is it in life we are never happy with what we have?
Why do with have the need to keep up with the Joneses or Smiths or anyone other than yourself?
Personally I feel it starts when we are children, no matter what toy they are playing with or if they have all the toys in the world, they will always want the toy a sibling, friend or TV advert has.
It progresses to sibling rivalry and falling out with friends as children get older. However it gets to its worst when adulthood arrives. The consist urge for more can lead to adultery, ruined friendships, debts to name but a few.
Don’t get me wrong I’m all for striving for a better life but is a better life having a newer/posher car than next door? Having the biggest TV in the street? Wanting something just because you don’t have it? In my opinion no, striving to better your education, knowledge, personal circumstances then yes but wanting for the sake of wanting is ridiculous.
I think we are all guilty of keeping up with the Joneses in one way or another, however it doesn’t make it right. Jealously in not a nice quality to see in another person and certainly not in ourselves.
Next time you want something, think why you want it?
Do you want it for a purpose or just adding more stuff to your life?
