Enjoying Autumn #WellyWalks

October 28, 2016

I look forward to the autumn months. That magical time when the leaves start turning beautiful shades of reds and golds. Before fluttering down to the ground.

The weather is that pick n mix of the sunshine, showers, and gusts of wind. Keeping you guessing whether it’s safe to black away your summer t-shirts and bring out the long sleeves, scarves and rain macs.

The nights start to draw in and the days become shorter. So it makes it even more important to make the most of getting outdoors. Pulling on a hoodie, stuffing gloves in our pockets and slipping on some wellies ready for an adventure.

Roo and Tigger’s new school has a school dog, Seb, which the children are invited to go and help walk at lunchtime to the local lagoon. Roo has taken part on a couple of occasions and she is always talking about how we should take a walk over there.

So at the weekend we finally managed to make the trip. The weather had been awful in the morning with torrential rain but by the afternoon it had brightened up. Seizing the opportunity to don our new wellies we headed out hoping that the heavens wouldn’t open on us.

As we made our way down the start of the lagoon path I was amazed to see just how far the path led. Thinking that there was just a little pasture hidden behind the trees and hedges. Instead, I found a beautiful pathway adorned by different varieties of trees, with new saplings ready to withstand the upcoming winter to grow in the springtime.

Walking through the trail leading down to the lagoon we spotted some lovely big trees with a blanket of leaves underneath. Heading over we decided to see how many different types and colours of leaves we could find. If there is something that my children thrive on it is a spot of healthy competition, and boy did they have fun. Although instead of collecting leaves it soon turned into leaf fights with all the autumn colours being scattered through the air.

As we walked along the children commented about how different this year was to last year. With woodland walks replacing our after school strolls along the sand dunes. Whilst we miss living by the seaside, the trails, woodland walks and new areas to explore are making up for the lack of waves and sand dunes.
