I can remember being asked once if I had voted in the election that had taken place at the time. I hadn’t and admitted so to the lady who was asking, with that she was horrified and launched into giving me a history lesson in how women fought to be given the right to vote and that by not voting I was belittling their efforts. Needless to say since then I have made sure that I have always voted, in fact I actually do it by post to make sure that I don’t miss an election.
So from these inspirational women how fought for women to be treated equally to the following ladies who an inspiration in their own right.
Princess Diana
A truly inspirational lady who was patroness of many charities, from landmines, to AIDS, to supporting Great Ormond Street Hospital. Her caring and compassionate nature touched the hearts of the national and passed on her beliefs to her two sons, William and Harry.
The Queen
Standing at the helm of the country for over 60 years she has weathered both the good and the bad that has happened. From the deaths of family members, troubles in Northern Ireland and more recently welcoming the next generation of the royal family. She maybe our Queen but she has shown us that she is also a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Margaret Thatcher
Whilst I don’t necessarily agree with all her policies and actions whilst she was in power, she was and is still and inspiration to many women. She was the first female UK prime minister and the longest serving one of the 20th century.
Annie Lennox
Not only can this lady belt out a tune or two but she has worked hard to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS in both women and children in Africa.
Lucy
Through mentoring and training the Gatsby Trust gave Lucy the confidence to develop her business and to network after moving from the countryside to the city, She is an inspirational creative who brought out so many beautiful, imaginative handcrafted items to show us. More than that she is a teacher and looks forward expanding her business by training other women who want to start up craft and textile businesses.
