Have you ever had that ‘Sliding Doors’ moment in your life when if you’d made a different decision your life could have been so very different to one you live today? A life that could see you living somewhere different to where you are now, in a different career or even with a completely different partner or had never even met your significant other?
In another life, Mr Boo and I would be living in Australia and who knows whether we would have gone on to have Roo, Tigger and the upcoming arrival of Piglet.
You see before Mr Boo and I had children, and even before we got married we talked about uprooting and heading over to live in Australia. Dreaming of the warmer weather, the beautiful beaches and scenery, and a whole new way of life. It’s a fantasy that many couples have of leaving the UK behind and heading off to pastures new and with Mr Boo having visited Australia as a teenager and having family live out there, it seemed the perfect destination for us.
We looked into the various practicalities of moving to the other side of the world, from where we would settle, to looking at land for sale in Sydney by Lend Lease and as Mr Boo’s family run a large building firm out in Australia we would be lucky enough to have access to some great builders in order to build our dream home. Added to the fact Mr Boo studied to be an electrician at the time so he could also get involved within the building project as well as hopefully secure a good job out there and qualify for our visa.
With a home project planned and no children to tie us down, we planned to tour around Australia to see as many of the sights as possible. Heading to the well-known tourist areas as well as seeing what the outback had in store for us, we wanted to make the most of what life in Australia could bring us.
In the end we decided that moving to the other side of the world without our immediate family would be too difficult. We would miss out on seeing our grandparents, our parents and our siblings as well as any new additions to the family.
Maybe in another life we’ll make the move, for now I’ll have to contend myself with watching all the amazing TV shows about those couples and families who are brave enough to make the move.
