Before you have children you watch the struggles that your friends have with their children to eat certain foods. The bribes they make with food and how they can end up cooking a different meal for each family member. It is easy to sit there with rose-tinted glasses and think that when you come to have children it will all be different.
I was one of these people, I have watched in horror as friends have bribed their children, begged their children to eat just one more bite. In many ways I was quite lucky with Roo in that she would eat most things and whilst there are things that I know she doesn’t like she is open to trying something new. Her lunch box is an easy thing to fill each morning as she is happy with a sandwich, fruit, yoghurt and something for snack time.
I thought that I was going to be lucky second time round with Tigger too until he got chicken pox and then everything changed. He no longer wanted to try new foods, he no longer liked foods that he had previously enjoyed, quite frankly it was going through weaning all over again. Filling Tigger’s lunch box for pre-school is no easy task, sandwiches are out of the question so he has cocktail sausage rolls, hot cross buns or scotch pancakes. Along with a yoghurt, raisins or a banana and a couple of biscuits. So partly healthy but certainly not ideal. With him starting school full-time in September I am worried about him taking in a packed lunch each day as he would refuse a hot dinner especially as he has things in there that the school may object to.
I look at the survey results from MyVoucherCodes in which I was one of the parents they surveyed and in part I don’t feel as guilty that my children dictate to a point when they eat, and also what they eat as other parents seem to be in the same boat.
Who knows maybe baby number three will be my easiest feeder and they will happily eat whatever I put in front of them (a Mum can hope).
