How to Make Your Car Last Longer

September 25, 2019

This is a partnership post

Cars are one of the most expensive purchases you will make besides your home. Not only are cars expensive, but we also depend on them. We use them in almost every aspect of our lives. We don’t really realise just how much until you are dealing with a breakdown. No one wants to be left on the side of the road or looking to buy a new car before they are ready.

Maintaining Your Car

One of the best ways to ensure that your car lasts as long as it possibly can is by ensuring that you have routine maintenance. MOTs are a government requirement and are the basic form of ensuring your car is in tip-top condition. Routine car servicing dependant on your mileage will ensure that the majority of problems are found and dealt with before it leaves you stranded on the side of the road.

When thinking about routine maintenance here are a few things that you should do regularly on top of servicing to keep your car running well…

Check the Oil and Change it on Time

One of the most important things that you can do for your car is to make sure you are not low on oil and to make sure that you are getting routine oil changes. Oil helps the moving parts of the car move easily without grinding. As the oil gets used, dirt and other impurities are deposited in the oil that can damage the engine. That is why you should be getting oil changes about every 3000 to 4000 miles. When you get routine oil changes, it maintains the engine and helps it to last longer.

Check the Hoses

As the hoses get older and as the weather changes it can affect the hoses. You want to check the hoses at least every 3 months. When one of the hoses fail, it can leave you on the side of the road with a car that doesn’t go. Spotting the damaged hoses can spot a problem before it starts.

Check the Belts

When the belts break, the engine does not work. Sometimes the belts can damage other parts when it snaps. Checking the belts for cracks lets you know about a problem before it becomes a problem

When the Car Breaks Down

Even with the best maintenance work, there will still be problems that need to be fixed by a mechanic. When that happens, you don’t want to be faced with a large mechanic bill. This is why you want to have a car warranty. Car warranties help to pay for repairs to your car. How much and what is covered is based on the type of coverage you have. Think of it as health insurance for your car. You hope to never need it but it is there when you need it.

You can minimise the chances of your car breaking down by buying a high-quality car from a reputable dealer. If you are looking at second hand cars, make sure to check the car’s reports before you buy. A reliable used car should not have been involved in any major accidents and should be in good condition.

Maintain your car and get the most life out of it. Make sure that you are performing regular maintenance on your car and have a car warranty for when things go wrong.
