Decorating a room can be quite an upheaval. Clearing out all the furniture and accessories (junk) whilst the work is completed is easier said than done. Especially if you have nowhere to store everything in the short-term (or long-term as decorating tasks always take longer than you think). With this in mind, many of us opt for a plain backdrop and add the warmth, feel and mood of a room in other ways. Take a look at my suggestions on how to decorate without decorating…
How to decorate without decorating
Lighting
Something that can make or break a room. Gone are the days of just having the overhead light on. Nowadays you need to think about different ways in which you will use the room. Do you need task lighting by the sofas so you can read your book after a busy day? Do you need mood lighting that can be adjusting depending on the time of day and atmosphere you require? Lighting options can be overwhelming to choose from, however, Nest.co.uk have a great selection available.
Soft Furnishings
Soft furnishings can add both a pop of colour and add warmth and texture to a room. From replacing the curtains, refreshing the cushions and adding a different style rug. Don’t be afraid of mixing fabric choices for added texture as well as interest.
Accessories
Placing cases, photo frames and pictures can turn a generic space into something much more personalised. Mixing and matching frame types and colours as well as framing some quotes alongside favourite photos will give that eclectic feel. Whilst adding varying sized vases or candles in groups of three can add an element of interest to a mantelpiece, sideboard or shelf.
Storage
Storage is important in any home, so adding some key pieces that can be refreshed as time goes on it perfect. A simple cubed unit with coloured boxes in will add the much-needed storage and a pop of colour too. Wicker hampers are great for hiding everything away plus look great stacked against the wall.
