Halloween night is the perfect time to gather your loved ones for a thrilling and entertaining family movie night. Whether you’re celebrating with the little kids or a group of friends, there’s no better way to get into the Halloween spirit than by watching your favourite Halloween movies.
Set The Stage For A Spooky Soiree
To kick off your Halloween movie night party, you’ll need the right ambiance. One easy way to do this is by decorating your living room or outdoor space with Halloween decorations. Think spider webs, carved pumpkins, and eerie candles. String lights can add an extra touch of magic, creating a bewitching atmosphere for your guests.
Spooky Snacks And Treats
What’s a Halloween movie night without some delectable treats? Get your creative juices flowing and whip up some themed treats. For a themed twist, make mini pizza mummies with string cheese and olives or spooky house sandwiches using white sheets of bread. Don’t forget the Halloween candy – gummy worms, candy corn, and chocolate bars. For a savory treat, serve bloody marinara sauce with parmesan cheese in a cauldron-like pot. These snacks will keep everyone satisfied throughout the night.
Themed Treats And Snack Trays
Consider preparing fun snack trays for your guests. You can create snack trays featuring a variety of treats, including popcorn, candy, and finger foods. Label each tray with a Halloween-themed name, such as Witch’s Brew Popcorn or Mummy Wraps Candy Bars. It’s a great way to add an extra touch of Halloween spirit to your movie night.
Choose Your Halloween Flicks
Now comes the fun part: selecting the movies. For little kids, classics like The Nightmare Before Christmas, Halloween Town, and The Addams Family are excellent choices. If you have older kids or a group of friends joining in, you can opt for spookier fare like Halloween, Friday the 13th, or A Nightmare on Elm Street. Don’t forget the iconic characters like Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, and Jason Voorhees, who are sure to haunt your dreams for days to come.
Halloween Movie Night Films
It is getting dark earlier and you are snug at home. Its fall, and for a fall evening there is nothing better than watching a great Halloween movie. Take your pick of any movie listed below. All of these are great Halloween movies for the season.
Sleepy Hollow Staring Johnny Depp
This is a well done version of the story of Sleepy Hallow, a Halloween story if there ever was one. It occurs during the fall season, and actually features some pumpkins. I love any version of this story, and this is a very good one.
Sleep Hollow
Disney cartoon version – This is also a great version of this story, but it is presented in a scary fashion. Older school age children will love it, but younger ones might be really frightened. It still makes for a great Halloween movie.
Halloween, The Original From 1978
This is a horror/slasher movie written and directed by John Carpenter. This movie received critical acclaim, and if you like this kind of movie, it is well done. It is also absolutely Halloween themed. It has been remade and there are sequels. But this is the only one worth watching, in my opinion.
Something Wicked This Way Comes – From 1983
Based on a book by Ray Bradbury, this movie tells the story of two boys and a wicked operator of the town carnival. The boys and their parent are eventually able to rescue the town from the carnival operator, but only just barely. This is an example of what happens if the evil part of Halloween stays forever.
The Blair Witch Project
This makes the Halloween list because it is about witches and superstition and is an all around good movie. This is not a movie perhaps for those who get motion sickness. Other than that, a great Halloween choice.
Halloweentown
This Disney movie and their squeals are great entertainment for a family movie about Halloweentown and usually turns up on the Disney Channel every year. They star a young witch named Marnie who thinks she has solved her problems when she arrives at Halloweentown. I think there are 4 movies, but I am not sure. Don’t miss the first one, it is really wonderful and uplifting.
The Haunted Mansion
This movie staring Eddie Murphy is a fun movie about Disney’s Haunted House. Despite poor reception (the idiot’s brought it out at Christmas) by the public, this is a cool spooky movie. This signing heads are great and the special effects are cool. Eddie is almost believable as dad.
It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
You must have seen it. This special shows up every year and should not be missed. It is a great tale about friendship and well, being stupid. And Charlie Brown and Snoopy still look great.
Hocus Pocus
This is a movie about three witches who must find children to complete a spell before Halloween ends because they want to stay young forever. Three children and a cat set out to take on the witches. This movie is rated PG and is for school age, but most older kids will enjoy the heck out of it, too.
Casper
He is the friendly ghost, right? This is the story of Casper and his brother ghosts. It is not exactly about Halloween, but the ghosts fit, right? Anyway, I enjoy watching this movie so much, I am stretching a little here. This might be a little scary for young children, but it will be find for everyone else in the family.
Pumpkinhead
This is about revenge. A group of teens hide the accidental murder of a boy, but dad decides to get revenge by consulting the local witch and conjuring up a monster. Good horror movie for an October night.
Twiches
Newer Disney movie about twin witches. There are actually two of these. This has a lot to do with spells, lost loves and evil family members. I don’t think anyone will find it scary, and I like this movie lots better than I do any of the talent search shows on television.
Halloween-themed movie nights are a fantastic way to celebrate the spooky season with your family and friends. With a little creativity and the right choice of movies, decorations, and treats, you can create the perfect Halloween movie night that will become a cherished tradition for years to come. So, gather your loved ones, embrace the Halloween spirit, and enjoy a fun night filled with thrills and chills.
Happy Halloween!
