Whenever I think of my Granny’s house I can always remember her hallway. It wasn’t particularly long or grand but it was somewhere which all the grandchildren played during the summer. It was the place that welcomed you into her house and somewhere we would be carried through as we went to bed.
A hallway is possibly the first room of your home that family, friends, and guests will see, so it is important to make a good impression. One of the key features my Granny had in her hallway was a sideboard. It would house the place mats for the table, extra cutlery in the drawers and a vase full of fresh flowers from her garden on top.
Getting your hallway ready for spring
When it comes to styling your hallway ready for spring take a look at what you already have available to you in other rooms. Personally I find that having one statement piece of furniture in the hallway then accessorising from there can really make the difference.
A sideboard can feel quite large and overpowering in a hallway so why not try adding a console table instead. With some of the practical features of a sideboard like the drawers to store the essentials in and a large top to house photo frames, flowers and a lamp.

Mirror
No matter how big and beautiful your hallway may be, it can always do with a little extra light or the feeling of space. Adding a feature mirror will not only ensure that the light is reflected and making the space feel brighter. But also provides that place for a last minute check of your outfit etc before you open the door to guests.
Coat Hooks
I have a love/hate relationship when it comes to coat hooks. They can soon become somewhat of a dumping ground for coats, hoodies, bags and accessories that are not used on a daily basis. To get around this providing the minimal number of hooks close to the front door will ensure that they need to be tided regularly. Plus adding them on the wall instead of a freestanding coat rack will free up floor space and in turn make the hallway appear larger.
Table Lamp
During the evenings having the large hallway light on can seem so bright and unnecessary. Adding a statement yet classic table lamp on to the sideboard will eliminate the need for the main light and provide a softer, calmer atmosphere in the hallway.
Rug
Personally I would only add a rug in a hallway if the floor was tiled or wooden boards. I don’t feel the space requires it if you have carpet. However, it can provide that contrasting colour to neutral walls and save you having to clean the floor from footprints and debris.
