Tips for Perfect Placement of Garden Benches

It’s always wise to consider a space to sit-in while planning a garden, whether for solo relaxation or spending time with friends. Before putting outdoor furniture, always consider the time when you are most likely to use your garden. Do you enjoy sunbathing or do you want to soak up the last rays on a warm evening? Put your bench up accordingly! Pick a comfortable garden bench and it’s a good reminder to take the time to enjoy all your hard work. Place your trowel down, make a cup of coffee and get a seat. Factors to consider when placing a garden bench

A bench may look stylish and spontaneous in your front or backyard, but there should be more things to consider on where to place it. The placement of a bench in a landscape or garden will require at least a few factors. Including:

View

It doesn’t have to be a breathtaking, million-dollar view of the mountains or whitecaps (though go for it when it’s there). What view do you want your bench to look at? It may be your yard, or a romantic vignette, like a flowering pool or pond, rose bushes or flowers.

Location

Do you live in a warm place? Will a bench be a welcome respite in the shade? Or, are you living in a rainy climate, like the northwest Pacific? A bench under a canopy of a roof or tree may provide much-needed shelter during a sudden sprinkle or storm. You can find the best benches that will suit your location and view at Sloane & Sons Garden Benches!

Materials and Bench style

Benches should not be perfectly designed, but if your house is a distinct architectural style — say, modern or victorian in the mid-century — then the nature of the bench and the materials matter. Somewhat elegant, rectangular and absent of intricate carvings and details would probably go with a modern house while a Victorian would call for an extremely decorative bench.

The material on the ground or surface will impact the type of bench you placed on top of it. A patio with flagstone pavers would be very rough and uneven — making some types of benches, such as those made of concrete, fragile, and rocky. A pavement, lawn or area with decomposed granite (DG) is more relaxed as a surface and can accommodate the most informal benches. Also, weigh the area you have in mind and the bench before finding out the bench is too large.

Conclusion

Material wise the standard preference is wood, and the top of the tree is teak, which is a sturdy, robust, split-resistant wood that will age to a silvery shimmer. Furniture made from a wide range of other trees, including pine, acacia and oak, can also be found. Most wooden benches should have been treated with pressure (a method where a preservative is pushed into the wood under a vacuum) to help overpower the elements, but each year your bench should benefit from adding a fresh wood preservative coat.

There’s a bench to match all outdoor spaces from modest paved yards to large sprawling lawns. We recommend have a look at a variety of garden benches at Sloane & Sons Garden Benches.
