When buying a neon sign, whether this is for your business or for your home, you may have several questions regarding the production and installation. As this isn’t your everyday purchase it is best to have all the information you require before making the final decision on your new neon art piece. Here are some answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about neon signs.
How long will a neon sign last?
One of the great benefits of purchasing a neon sign made with traditional neon as opposed to neon alternatives like LED is the longevity of the neon. Many neon signs will shine bright for years, even decades! Despite daily use, many neon sign owners have found their neon signs continue to glow exactly as they did the day they were first purchased and installed.
Are Neon Signs expensive to run?
One concern many people will have when buying a neon sign is what it will cost to run such an illuminated sign. Typically requires the use of a mains socket, internal neon signs can be quite simply hung and plugged in anywhere. Although there is a misconception that they require the use of a lot of electricity and will therefore affect electricity bills, the majority of neon signs for domestic and commercial use generally run around 60 watts. Which is pretty standard. It is important to bear your usage in mind when designing or choosing your neon sign, particularly the size of your sign.
Will the neon tubing get hot?
Another concern people will have, particularly those wanting a neon sign for domestic use, is whether or not the neon tubing will get very hot. A lot of people believe the tubing of a neon sign will generate a lot of heat, however, this is not true. When manufactured by a professional, the neon tubing will only feel slightly warm, but they will certainly not get too hot to touch.
Are Neon Signs Safe?
Many people will be concerned about the safety aspect of installing neon signs. This is because they will be aware of the presence of either neon or argon gas within the neon tubing. These are both noble gases and are found in the air we breathe every day. Therefore a neon sign is safe to use and install.
How is a neon sign installed?
As briefly mentioned above, neon signs can be quite simply plugged into any mains socket when being used internally. The majority of neon signs will be purchased with a backing which can be fitted to a wall. Most neon signs will not require specialist installation and can instead be hung by a chain or fitted to a wall, ready to be enjoyed for years to come.
