Horrible Histories – The Terrible Tudors
When: Thursday 27th July – Saturday 2nd September 2023
Where: The Garrick Theatre in London
If you fancy the day out being spent in front of a stage, then this is the one for you. Horrible Histories has always been one of the best family-friendly ways to delve into the darker facets of our history, constantly finding a way to educate in the funniest ways possible. Returning in 2023 following last year’s incredibly successful run, their dive into the tumultuous Tudor era of British history, Terrible Tudors, is back at The Garrick theatre for the whole summer period.
The show hilariously timelines the horrible Henries to the end of evil Elizabeth, during which you can hear the legends and lies that make up the story of the torturing Tudors. Find out the fate of Henry’s headless wives and his punch-up with the Pope. Meet Bloody Mary and see Ed fall dead in his bed. Survive the Spanish Armada as they launch their attack!
It’s a great, family-friendly show that’ll be educational for the younger in the crowd and a great dose of fun for everyone else!
HDIF Family Disco
When: Last Sunday of every month
Where: The Phoenix, Cavendish Square in London
The HDIF Children’s disco has seen wild success at End Of The Road festival for the last seven years and has since started a regular night at The Phoneix in Cavendish Square. Here the kids are treated to a mixture of the indie, pop, and soul of your youth, and the discos are a wonderful opportunity for them to bop around, and for you to bop along with them, reliving the glory days.
It can often be hard to get out to club nights once you become a parent, so these discos are as much a chance for the parents to go out dancing as they are for the kids. So get on all the old rave gear (if it still fits), and get your kids down for a boogie at HDIF, it’ll be a night they’ll always remember!
Duck Detectives at London Wetland Centre
When: Saturday 1st – Saturday 15th April 2023
Where: WWT London Wetland Centre in Barnes
This April, in time for the Easter period, the amazon team at the WWF London Wetland Centre have put together an awesome Duck Detective family day out, full of exploration and discovery, that will put all of your senses to the test.
To succeed as a Duck Detective and complete the Easter trail, you’ll need to get closer than ever to nature. It’s time to investigate underwater mysteries. Follow tracks to work out who’s been creeping around at night. And use everything from feather bird calls to animal poo (honestly!) to reveal the wildlife secrets only a true Duck Detective knows.
It’s super cheap, with tickets from admissions being just £1, plus it’s a totally unique experience that’ll provide you and the family with a much-needed escape into nature; one in which the kids will be constantly entertained (instead of the usual complaints of boredom.)
The Tiger Who Came For Tea
When: Monday 10th July – Sunday 3rd September 2023
Where: Theatre Royal Haymarket in London
Another theatre show for you, and one for families whose little uns are especially little, The Tiger Who Came To Tea, based on Britain’s best-loved picture book by Judith Kerr and the Olivier Award-nominated smash hit show of the same name, is returning to the West End for Summer 2023.
Bring the kids and watch their glee as the tea-guzzling tiger rings the doorbell just as Sophie and her mummy are sitting down to tea. This delightful family show is packed with oodles of magic, sing-a-long songs and clumsy chaos!
This is a stunning and widely adored stage adaptation of the classic tale of teatime mayhem… expect to be surprised and for your kids to come home recounting the whole thing. We can’t recommend it enough!
