Exploring Types of Midi Dresses

When you look at dresses, you can easily get overwhelmed by all of your options. The sooner you can narrow those options down, the better. If you want a dress that will give you the most value for your money, you need to avoid speciality dresses that only serve specific purposes. For example, a ball gown is not going to help you when you want a daily wear dress. Similarly, a mini dress is only appropriate for certain casual occasions. One great dress you can wear all the time in many situations is a midi dress.

A Quick Midi Dress Primer

You might not know what classifies a dress as “midi.” It refers to the midway point on your lower leg. The dress allows you to display half of the lower leg while covering the other half, if you get a midi dress that fits by exact definition. However, there are plenty of midi dresses that are a bit shorter or longer. Choosing one that is might flatter your figure more.

What Makes the Exact Hemline of a Midi Dress Important

The reason the hemline of your midi dress is important is it needs to be appropriate for the combination of your height and your footwear. The shorter the dress is, the longer your legs will look. If you intend to buy a midi dress to wear with heels, your legs will look even longer. Conversely, wearing flat shoes with a longer midi dress makes your legs look very short. That is why you have to carefully balance your full height, the length of your legs, the length of the dress and the footwear type you plan to wear with it.

Seasonal Midi Dress Types and Styling Tips

Another thing you need to keep in mind when shopping for a midi dress is when you plan to wear it, especially if you live in an area where seasonal weather changes occur. In the fall or winter, select a midi dress that is on the long side for the most warmth, but avoid heavy fabrics. They are not typically figure-flattering. Also, be careful to accessorize it in a fashionable, yet practical way. For example, adding boots to the ensemble might look cute while also protecting you from the cold. Similarly, a jacket or sweater can help you stay warm and fashionable at the same time.

When the weather is warmer, a dress made out of a light fabric like satin or cotton is ideal. Opt for lighter colours to stay cool and match the warm, bright feelings associated with spring and summer. Remember layering might still be required on cooler evenings, even in typically warm seasons.

Accessorizing Your Waist to Get the Most Out of Your Midi Dress

A midi dress is also unique because it can often give you a block-like appearance. If you opt for a solid-coloured dress, the single colour can make your figure lack definition on its own. However, a solid-coloured midi dress is quite cute, as long as you know how to accessorize it. Namely, you need to create a division between your legs and your torso. You can do that by using a sash or belt to add a splash of a different colour to your outfit and create some definition at your waist.

What it All Boils Down To

It may seem like a lot goes into the process of choosing the perfect midi dress. However, it all really boils down to finding what looks best on you. Often, that can involve a little trial and error. You can limit that trial and error by using the guidelines above combined with your own fashion preferences and instincts.
