As an administrator in my day job, I do always chuckle when people suggest that we live in a paperless society. Whilst more and more things are becoming paperless like bank statements and utility bills. Although the irony is that whenever you need to produce these documents for referencing etc. you need to print them off.
Bills and statements aren’t the only things as a family that we print off. The children have homework sheets, colouring templates and in Roo’s case song lyrics so she can earn her favourite songs word for word. Add to this the printing of photos to display around the home and to send to family and friends.
So as you can see our printer is in use almost every day so we need something that is both up to our printing tasks and cost-effective.
Epson EcoTank ET-4550 multifunction printer with refillable ink tanks
A Four-in-One inkjet with print, copy, scan and fax, the economical Epson EcoTank ET-4550 is easy to maintain, with 11,000 pages of black and colour ink included in the box* – that’s two whole sets of ink bottles included.
Epson EcoTank printers are printers that can save you up to 70% of your printing costs due to their integrated high-capacity ink tanks. It contains refillable high volume tanks that will last you much longer than printers with traditional ink cartridges, with this in mind we believe that this printer is perfectly suited for family needs as it is no hassle, after buying the printer you won’t have to worry about replacing the ink for 2 years meaning no last-minute homework hand in worries!
Setting up the ET-4550 was straightforward using the step by step guide included within the box. I was a little anxious about filling up the ink tanks so popped an old cloth down which wasn’t needed in the end.
The biggest selling feature of this printer has to be the EcoTank, the fact that the ink could last up to 2 years without having to purchase more ink is incredible. The tanks on the side of the machine enable me to see exactly how much ink I have left and whether or not I would need to top up, unlike machines where you have to replace the colour cartridge because you have used up all the magenta. However, if you do ever completely run out of ink, you can easily restock for cheap here!
The printer is able to print in both black/white and colour depending on your needs. As the printer is wireless you are able to connect it to both your computer, tablet and smartphone (a free downloadable app is required to print from tablet/smartphone). The print quality is really good and can be adjusted if you are just printing draft copies of a document to conserve ink.
The scanning functionality to the Cloud has been a real lifesaver as I don’t always want to drag out the laptop just to scan something that I can then email from my phone or tablet. We’ve started scanning the children’s old school certificates using the feeder which has made the process much easier and allows us to have all their achievements in one place.
