Easter Gift Guide – Books

Giving the gift of reading to children will set them up for life. Whether they enjoy reading fairy tales, pirate stories or just their favourite magazine, being able to read is one of the essentials for life. So this Easter I urge you to buy a new book for the children in your life, below are three of my favourite publishers and a little glimpse of what reading treat you could get this Easter.

Why not introduce children to the reason we celebrate Easter with The First Easter and Other Bible Stories, it may seem an unlikely gift book but with many schools restricted on what they are allowed to teach for fear of offending one religion or another I feel we need to expose our children to the understanding of all religions, beliefs and cultures.

Roo is a question queen, even when she was younger she would sit and say ‘what’s that’ questioning everything so for her I think that the 100 Quick Quizzes – Ages 6-7 would be perfect. So if you have a inquisitive youngster in your midst why not grab a copy of this book or one for the other ages groups also available.

Tigger has started to understand that there is more to life than just trains and has allowed pirates to appear on his radar, so this Pirate Ship Sticker Playbook would be great. Roo can also get in on the action by helping to put together and read out any stories they make together.

One of my fondest memories from my childhood is cooking with my Granny and in turn my Mam, so encourage little ones in your life to Get Cooking – Activity Gift Book. Complete with recipes and cookie cutters it will hopefully get them interested in the kitchen and things always taste better if you made it.

I loved the name of the Gobble! Gobble! Gobble! book and couldn’t resist adding it, complete with an audio CD little ones can read-a-long with the story.

With Tigger in pre-school he has started learning about how to recognise and spell his name, I’d love to encourage this at home with the Learn with Red Hen and Her Phonic Friends.

Roo is a big fan of the rainbow magic fairies and Betsy the Bunny (Fairy Animals of Misty Wood) is along similar lines so I think that if she found this from the Easter Bunny she would be pleased

We have loaned the Good Night Gorilla story from our local library and loved it, a recommended read for both boys and girls.

I had to finish off my little round-up with an Easter book… Knock Knock It’s Easter!
