Don’t you think daisies are the friendliest flower?

August 3, 2017

There is something special about receiving a bunch of flowers. Whether it is a few daisies collected from the lawn and given to you by your child. A bouquet of flowers for your birthday or anniversary. Or even that reduced bunch that you found smiling at you in the supermarket as you hastily gathered last-minute milk and bread supplies.

Don’t you think daisies are the friendliest flower?

Kathleen Kelly: I love daisies.
Joe Fox: You told me.
Kathleen Kelly: They’re so friendly. Don’t you think daisies are the friendliest flower?

The above quote is from one of my favourite films, You’ve Got Mail. Whenever I think of daisies I always remember this scene from the film. Kathleen is unwell and Joe Fox calls round to see her, however, at the time they don’t really like each other (spoiler – although they are messaging each other without knowing it). I have to agree with Kathleen that there is something so friendly and welcoming about daisies.

I prefer gerbera daisies to traditional daisies, however, that being said I’d still be happy to receive a bunch of them. Gerbera daisies have the simplistic look and friendly feel of a daisy with the added pop of colour. They are a flower that can sometimes be overlooked in favour of roses and tulips, however, I’d much prefer a bouquet of them from Flying Flowers.

Hidden Flower Meanings

I’m someone who selects a flower or a bouquet because I think it is beautiful, I like the colours or it contains a flower that I know the recipient loves. I don’t really give much thought, if any, to the hidden flower meanings. Whether these secrets have been passed down through the generations or are rooted in our collective psyche, there’s no doubt that flowers can send unspoken messages.

If I were to ask you what your favourite flower was, what would you say?
What is it about that flower that makes it special to you?
