Yesterday I went into work on my day off to attend a monthly meeting. It’s just a general meeting that highlights any messages from the bigwigs, changes that need implementing and everyday bits and bobs. As my job share hasn’t taken minutes before I kindly agreed to attend to show her how I do them.
Now I need to explain that I work at a desk, therefore whenever anyone feels like a rant or an offload they know that I will be there. So throughout my shifts I tend to get all the highs and lows, moans and groans of whatever is happening that day. This includes the ‘I’m bloody sick of this’ rants about things people would like to change.
So back to my meeting, one of the agenda items was something that someone else (who did not attend the meeting) asked me to bring up. You know that feeling, when you are trying to be polite and political about the subject but know matter what you say it is taken the wrong way and everyone gets annoyed #yeahthat.
I left the meeting feel awful… Awful as I was the one who had to bring the issue up… Awful that everyone got annoyed about it… Awful that the person who asked me to bring it up was going to get mobbed by disgruntled staff.
I went to work this morning still feeling awful about the situation but hoping for the best. Thankfully only one member of staff brought up the comments and I explained that I was just passing on comments it was not my issue.
Work didn’t get much better as the day went on though, I had an argument with a member of staff from another team. Despite me explaining over and over why I did not want something to happen that she was requesting she would not let it drop. In the end I politely but firmly explained that I had given her my reasons, if she did not like my response then to take it up with my manager as she has final say… end of conversation! With that I turned my back and carried on working… Honestly, some people are like a dog with a bone.
