Coca-Cola’s Designated Driver

December 19, 2014

It’s Christmas party season and whilst most people are thinking about what they are wearing and where they are going there will be those who are thinking about how to get everyone home safely. I am that person, I am the one worrying about getting everyone home safely, I am the designated driver!

Designated Drivers

Coca-Cola in partnership with road safety organisation, THINK! is celebrating the unsung role of Designated Drivers, who ferry their mates around the pubs and bars at Christmas. It’s a fun, light-hearted campaign that delves into the positive aspects of being the driver. Overall, its about encouraging people not to drink and drive over the festive period.

Coca-Cola have teamed up with 12,500 pubs/bars in the UK to provide a ‘buy one get one free’ offer on their soft drinks to positively reward/celebrate designated drivers around the country. The offer will run throughout the whole of December – during the busy Christmas party season and New Year’s Eve.

How does it work?

  • When buying drinks that include a Coca‑Cola, Diet Coke, Coke Zero or a drink from the Schweppes range, let the bar staff know if you – or one of your group – is a designated driver (you may be asked to show car keys)
  • Receive confirmation from the bar staff that you can claim your second soft drink free! (Note: The method of confirmation may vary from outlet to outlet).

Testimonials

For the seventh year we’re celebrating the unsung heroes of the festive party season – the designated drivers who drive friends and family back and forth to the pub. This year the campaign is bigger than ever with more than 12,500 pubs and bars across the country taking part. It’s great to see that so many people are willing to take on the role of the designated driver this Christmas and this is our way of saying thank you.” – Jon Woods, General Manager, Coca-Cola Great Britain

“I’m delighted that Coca-Cola is giving more support than ever to this campaign. As their new polling shows, designated drivers still enjoy a brilliant night out in the Great British pub at Christmas. Having a designated driver doesn’t dampen the party sprit, and means that everyone can have a safe journey home.” – Brigid Simmonds, Chief Executive of the British Beer & Pub Association

“Most people know drinking and driving is wrong and don’t do it, but there are still those that take the risk. Anyone tempted to have a tipple at Christmas time before getting behind the wheel should know the potential consequences. As well as risking an accident, you risk losing your licence. If you rely on a car for work, this could mean losing your job and wreck your chance of future employment.” – Patrick McLoughlin, Transport Secretary

Disclosure: I have received no financial or product compensation for sharing this post, just sharing a fabulous campaign – especially as I am the designated driver
