Bunk beds – Share your childhood memories

July 24, 2014

It’s funny the things you remember about your childhood. The family days out to Blackpool or even the first time we came to Great Yarmouth raises a smile upon my face it is not those memories that make me chuckle.

I remember having friends over for birthday parties and playing in the local river.

I remember playing trick or treat and riding down the hill on an old sofa.

I also remember having to share a room with my older sister, which at the time was a royal pain but looking back I can remember the fun we had rather than the arguments over ‘she’s touching my stuff!‘. Originally we shared the big back bedroom but after failing to keep it tidy yet again my Mam decided that we should swap rooms with her and have a smaller room. Of course being a smaller room meant we were limited on space so we were treated to some bunk beds. Being the youngest it meant that I got the bottom bunk, which I actually quite liked as it was like having a little fort all of my own. Although that was not the main reason I loved being on the bottom bunk it also meant that I got to kick the bottom of her mattress whenever she annoyed me.

It appears I wasn’t the only one with memories of having bunk beds when we were younger…

My older brother betting me that I couldn’t jump off the top bunk. Obviously I did and ended up in casualty for the night Seasider In The City

I wet the bed once and I slept on the top bunk, my brother got soaked! oops! Anon

My sister came home drunk as a teen, wet the bed and I got wet but to top it off as I went to get out she puked over the side so I was stuck in the corner of my bed crying and screaming for my mum. Anon

Oh god the memories are flooding back, I puked off the top bunk onto the floor, rolled over and went back to sleep (I was drunk and a teenager) Anon

I can see why some of these wished to stay anon… hehe!

Did you have bunk beds?

Do you have a funny bunk bed story?

Berlin Bunk Beds

Roo has bunk beds and is always pestering me to let Tigger have a sleepover in her room, not sure I’m ready for the bunk bed shenanigans just yet.

Disclosure: This post is brought to you in collaboration with Carpetright, although I really did used to annoy my sister by kicking the top bunk.
