Are Professional Spa Facials Worth it?

When it comes to skincare, we all have a different routine. From highly sensitive skin to those of us who can use virtually any cleanser or moisturizer, we tend to stick to our skincare routine like glue to maintain a youthful, beautiful glow. However, homemade or store-bought face masks can only go so far – so how often do we need to go to the spa for a professional facial? The answer is as often as your skin asks for it.

Everyone is different, and your skin will always let you know when a facial, cleanser or even lotion is wrong for you. This rule is no exception when it comes to going to a professional spa and getting a facial done by an expert. Fortunately, there are a wide variety of facials available from the spa of your choice, from brightening facials to those designed for acne-prone skin and sensitive skin. There are even “facials” for your back and body. When you choose a spa or salon, always let them know if you have any allergies or sensitivities to products and smells ahead of time.

Asking around to friends and family who have gotten facials should be able to tell you which spas in the area offer the best results and prices for your needs. However, if you want to know how you should go, the answer is in two parts: listen to your skin, and treat yourself as often as you can. Some may go to the spa once a month to de-stress, and others may go somewhere truly pricy only once a year around their birthday. Spa facials such as mud masks or brightening masks can be done often. At reputable spas such as the Capital Skin Spa, you’ll find facials as well as waxing, peels, and other add-ons such as light therapy and anti-ageing solutions.

Some spas and salons offer reasonable prices and excellent services, and this will require research and experience. These spas and salons are typically “big-names” and not smaller, independent clinics, but that doesn’t mean they are cheap and will send you away with a bad service. They may operate at high-volume, but simple services, such as a mud mask, can be done monthly through these spas. However, with more professional facials, such as laser, radiofrequency, or microdermabrasion facials, be more careful.

Only allow these professional facials to be done by someone you can trust, such as the small, independent clinics. They will cost more for good reason. Unlike a mud mask or a brightening mask, which you may have done at a spa to be pampered, it shouldn’t be done at home due to the nature of the procedure. Professional-grade materials and tools are used, so never settle for anything less than the best spa experience with peels, laser facials, and other higher-end procedures.

When you ask yourself if going to the spa for facials is worth it, the answer is always yes – especially if it is a procedure that you cannot do on your own. If it is a mud mask or brightening mask, feel free to do that at home in your PJs. But if you have the money to pay for a professional and allow yourself to be pampered for a few hours, you should always do so.
