Alternatives to Trick or Treating For Kids

October 19, 2020

With so much up in the air and many reasons why families opt to not go trick or treating anyway, I wanted to share some alternatives to trick or treating for kids that you can enjoy with your kids in October instead of going trick or treating.

Some families opt to do other activities during October rather than going out trick or treating with their kids. This year, many families are anxiously waiting to decide as to whether they’ll even take their kids out for trick or treating. Many cities and towns may cancel this event, while others may have some restrictions on how families can partake in trick or treating events.

Pumpkin Painting Night

Get out the pumpkins, the paint, and paintbrushes along with your favourite pumpkin carving stencils and have a pumpkin painting night. This activity is fun for all ages, even those youngsters who can’t yet carve pumpkins. Enjoy using pumpkin carving stencils to paint designs on your pumpkins together.

Trunk or Treat

Perhaps your church is hosting a trunk or treat event. This may not occur with restrictions due to the pandemic, but ask your church about their plans for a trunk or treat event. This may be a fabulous alternative to parents who want their kids to have some safe fun during Halloween.

Make Halloween Crafts

Gather up a list of the best Halloween craft ideas from Pinterest and have a Halloween craft night. This is a fabulous alternative to trick or treating because the whole family can be involved in making crafts that you can use as festive fall décor for October.

Goodie Hunt

Rather than heading out to trick or treat and be among strangers, consider hosting a trick or treating goodie hunt at home. This could be an event that’s similar to an Easter egg hunt, except it will be with trick or treating bags and Halloween goodies like pencils, apples, stickers, and candy.

Bob for Donuts

Some families enjoy doing a bob for an apple event, but bobbing for donuts is more family-friendly for all ages. Hang some donuts by a string from the trees in your yard and blindfold each person as they attempt to grab a donut from the trees using their mouth for some Halloween fun.
