Adapting my dream bathroom idea

March 10, 2015

Our bathroom renovation last year was a long time coming, especially after the botched job we were left with from the builders not long after we moved into the house. Every time we popped into our local DIY stores I would wonder around the bathroom section and look at all the different bathroom suites, tiles and accessories mentally planning my dream bathroom.

Over the years I changed my mind about which would be the best bath to fit into our small cosy bathroom. The one thing that never changed was my desire to have built-in bathroom furniture. Looking at the clean lines of the toilet and sink unit all being built-in with matching wall storage above meaning that I wouldn’t have to have all my lotions and potions on display – really giving me that clean-cut hotel feel to the bathroom.

Sadly after getting a couple of plumbers over to give us quotes on how much it would cost to replace our bathroom and to discuss our ideas on the bathroom renovation we were told that our soil pipe was in the wrong location to have  built-in vanity units. We were given the option to either dig up the floor and move the soil pipe or place a standard bathroom suite and having a boxed in area behind the toilet and sink area to give a similar look.

As digging up the floor was going to costly and time-consuming I reluctantly gave up my dream of having built-in bathroom furniture. Our chosen plumber assured us that he would be able to create something similar within our bathroom and I have to say he was true to his word.

Having lived with things not quite fitting, not quite working and the overall embarrassment every time someone asked to use our toilet I was so very excited to finally get the bathroom I had wanted for so long. It wasn’t all plain sailing though, we had to make some compromises along the way but the finished bathroom does look fabulous (if I do say so myself).
